***

(At Thompson Technologies…Melanie Collins installs a bug in Christopher's office to listen in on their conversation and hides in the closet before Christopher walks in to his office)

Christopher (buzzes his secretary on his intercom): Julie, can you please send Lori to my office right away? It's important.

Julie:

Yes sir, Mr. Thompson.

(A few seconds later, Lori comes into her father's office)

Lori:

Julie said you wanted to see me?

Christopher:

Yes I did. A friend of mine at the Daily Planet asked us to be a part of his communications department. He's holding a business party tonight at 9:00. Are you interested?

Lori:

Of course! I didn't know we had any connections.

Christopher:

Perry White and I go way back into our college days studying journalism and technology in the same classes. We've been good friends for many years. Anyways, his communications department is looking for a new image in finding information, so I told him about our satellite link around the world and made his decision about us being partners. What do you think?

Lori:

This could show the world a new breakthrough in technology that no one has ever seen before.

Christopher:

So, are you accepting my offer or not?

Lori:

Dad, of course! I would be honored to join the Daily Planet. This could brighten up a whole new future for us and the company.

Christopher:

Great. I have some errands I have to do but I'll send the limo over to pick you up for the party.

(Christopher and Lori leave the office. Melanie comes out of the closet, in disguise as a computer programmer)

Melanie:

That's what you think, my dear. Once I've taken care of your father's company, I will be happy to collect my 20 million he was supposed to give me, instead of you. If you ever find out about your mysterious aunt, I'll personally see that both of you, and the Daily Planet, go out of business forever!!!!

At the Daily Planet

Clark:

Have you heard about the good news from Perry yet?

Jimmy:

What good news?

Clark:

Thompson Technologies is helping us with our communications department.

Jimmy:

You mean that multi-million dollar company?

Lois:

I've been doing research on the president and I found out that he's the fourth richest man in the world. He also donates thousands of dollars to different charities every year.

Clark:

That's great. Are you going to the party tonight, Lois?

Lois:

Maybe. What about you, Jimmy?

Jimmy:

You bet. This is my big chance to get an interview with the vice-president, Lori Thompson.

Clark:

Isn't she the same age as you?

Jimmy:

Yeah. I think she's the most gorgeous woman I've ever seen in my entire life.

(At the party…Lori arrives in the limo and her father greets her at the door)

Christopher:

You look marvelous, Lori.

Lori:

Thanks, Dad. So do you.

Christopher:

Shall we?

(Lori and Christopher walk in the main floor to the ballroom)

Perry:

Christopher! Over here!

(Christopher and Lori walk over to Lois, Perry, Jimmy and Clark)

(Christopher and Perry shake hands)

Christopher:

Perry White! How long has it been?

Perry:

Many years, old chum. Great to see you.

Christopher:

You remember my daughter Lori?

Perry:

Of course. I haven't seen Lori since she was a little girl. How are you?

Lori:

I'm fine thank you, Mr. White.

Perry:

Please, call me Perry. I would like to introduce you both to some of my best reporters. This is Clark Kent, Lois Lane and Jimmy Olsen. This is Christopher and his daughter Lori Thompson.

Clark:

Pleased to meet you.

Lois:

Same here.

Lori:

Likewise, I'm sure.

Jimmy:

Enchante

(Jimmy kisses Lori's hand)

(The waiter brings the champagne glasses)

Lori:

I would like to propose a toast. To Mr. White, Lois, Clark and Jimmy. May our success with the Daily Planet bring good news for the future of all mankind.

All:

Cheers!

(They clink champagne glasses)

Jimmy:

Would you like to dance, Lori?

Lori:

I would love to.

(Jimmy and Lori leave to go dancing)

Christopher:

Those two make a cute couple, don't you think?

Perry:

I agree with you 100 percent. So, how's the family?

Christopher:

My wife, Melanie, and I got divorced a few years ago.

Perry:

I'm sorry to hear that. How are you and Lori coping?

Christopher:

Things are fine for now but we both can manage. Lori graduated from university a few months ago and I'm very proud of her.

Perry:

You should be, with a daughter as beautiful as yours. She has such a bright future ahead of her.

Lois:

You look very familiar. Haven't we met somewhere before?

Christopher:

I don't think so but I've read a lot of your work and I'm very impressed.

Lois:

Why, thank you.

(Clark comes in to the conversation)

Clark:

Lois, would you like to dance?

Lois:

Sure.

(Christopher observes Lois and has an expression on his Face, making him smile like never before)

Perry:

Boy, you look as if a whole herd of clowns ran over you. Are you alright?

Christopher:

I'm fine, thanks to Lois Lane.

On the dance floor…

Lori:

So, what would a good looking man like you be doing for a newspaper such as the Daily Planet?

Jimmy:

I'm a photojournalist. I've been with the Planet for many years now, and to tell you the truth, it's the job of a lifetime. What's it like working at a famous company like your father's?

Lori:

I've always dedicated my work to improving new ideas for the future. I was wondering if you would like to go to dinner tomorrow night?

Jimmy:

I would love to.

Lori:

Great. Let me pick the place and time and I'll call you tomorrow?

Jimmy:

Great.

(The song ends)

(Lori and Jimmy come back from the dance floor)

Christopher:

I'm sorry that we've been here for such a short time but Lori and I have other engagements to attend to. It's been great seeing you again, Perry.

Perry:

Same here.

Lori:

It was a pleasure meeting you all. I hope we can see each other, soon?

Clark:

I would like that a lot.

Lois:

Clark?

(Clark laughs)

Lois:

I hope we can get to know each other better and possibly become friends.

Lori:

That would be very nice. I've gotta go.

(Lori and Christopher are walking to the limo)

Lori:

That Jimmy Olsen is some guy!

Christopher:

What do you think?

Lori:

Dad, I think I've found the man of my dreams!

Christopher:

That's wonderful! My daughter has finally found someone she likes.

(Lori has a smile on her face)

Lori:

I saw that smile you gave Lois as she left to dance with Clark Kent. Is something going on that I should know about?

Christopher:

No, Lori. Everything's just fine.

Perry:

Alright gang, we have to finish the evening edition before our customers start ringing the phones off the hook!

(Lori walks in Perry's office)

Perry:

Lori! So nice to see you. What are you doing here?

Lori:

I was on my break so I decided to drop by and see how everything's going.

Perry:

Would you like a personal tour of the Daily Planet?

Lori:

It would be an honor.

(Jimmy suddenly runs into Perry's office)

Jimmy:

Sorry to disturb you, Chief, but I saw Lori and just happened to stop by to say hello.

Perry:

Your timing couldn't be more perfect, Jimmy. Could you give Lori the grand tour of the Planet and show her how we run a world-class newspaper?

Jimmy:

Sure thing, Chief.

(Clark calls his mother at her farmhouse in Smallville. Martha hears the phone ringing and picks it up)

Martha:

Hello?

Clark:

Hi, mom. How are you?

Martha:

I'm fine, Clark. How's everything at the Planet?

Clark:

Busy as usual.

Martha:

How is Lois?

Clark:

She's fine. I couldn't be happier. Where's dad?

Martha:

He's in the barn, cleaning out some old junk we've been keeping for years.

Clark:

Could you tell him I said hi?

Martha:

I sure will. By the way, who owns that computer business we've all been hearing about?

Clark:

A man by the name of Christopher Thompson and his daughter, Lori.

Martha:

Do you think this partnership will improve the Planet?

Clark:

According to Perry, it should. I'll call you later, alright?

Martha:

Sure, Clark. Take care.

Clark:

You too. Bye.

(Martha and Clark hang up the phone)

(Jimmy and Lori walk around the building)

Lori:

Thanks for the tour, Jimmy. I really appreciate it.

Jimmy:

It was my pleasure.

Lori:

Is dinner still on?

Jimmy:

You bet. Where are we going?

Lori:

That will be a surprise. Meet me at Thompson Technologies around eight o'clock. I have some projects to finish up.

Jimmy:

That sounds great.

(The next scene begins with Jimmy, entering Thompson Technologies.

Jimmy sits down in the main lobby. Lori's personal secretary, Julie, notifies Lori in her office)

(Lori hears a buzz on her intercom)

Lori:

Yes, Julie? Who is it?

Julie:

It's that reporter from the Daily Planet, Jimmy Olsen.

Lori:

Thanks. I'll be right down.

(Lori leaves the office and doesn't even know that her mother's in the building, undetected and hiding in Lori's closet. Lori then exits the elevator and greets Jimmy in the front lobby)

Lori:

Are you leaving soon, Julie?

Julie:

Yes, Miss Thompson.

Lori:

I'll be gone for the rest of the evening.

Julie:

Have a wonderful time.

Lori:

Thanks, Julie. I'll see you in my office, tomorrow morning so we can go over next month's schedule.

(At Chez Pierre, Jimmy and Lori are sitting at a romantic table for two. Lori is sipping on wine while Jimmy is finishing his dinner)

Jimmy:

Don't mind me asking, but are your parents married or divorced?

Lori:

Divorced.

Jimmy:

Oh, I'm sorry to hear that.

Lori:

That's okay. My mother hasn't seen me in months and I refuse for her to be a part of my life anymore. I'm sorry. I shouldn't bore you with my personal problems.

Jimmy:

It's okay. I'm a great listener.

Lori:

How is everything?

Jimmy:

Excellent. I didn't know you knew French.

Lori:

I was raised in Paris, France, but my parents moved to Metropolis when I was 5 years old.

Jimmy:

Do you miss living there?

Lori:

Yeah. In the countryside, everything's peaceful and quiet. If I feel like getting away from the city life, my father has a cottage outside of Paris. I try to go as often as I can.

Jimmy:

What do you like to do in your spare time?

Lori:

I like to go horseback riding, travel and go to nightclubs. What about you?

Jimmy:

I enjoy going to concerts, going out on dates and I enjoy the club scene, once in awhile.

(The waiter walks up to the table and picks up the tab from Lori. The waiter leaves to return the change)

Lori:

This one's on me.

Jimmy:

Alright, but let me treat you out next time.

Lori:

You've got a deal.

(The waiter returns with the receipt)

Lori:

Merci, Antoine.

Antoine (with subtitles):

A la prochaine, mademoiselle Thompson.

(The next scene ends with Jimmy and Lori, in a limousine, pulling up to the Thompson mansion)

Lori:

I had a wonderful evening, Jimmy.

Jimmy:

So did I. Can I see you again?

(Lori kisses Jimmy)

Lori:

Does that answer your question?

Jimmy:

I think it does.

(The chauffeur lets Lori out of the limousine)

Lori:

Could you please drive Mr. Olsen back to his residence?

Chauffeur:

Yes, Miss Thompson.

(The chauffeur leaves the Thompson mansion. Lori walks into her house)

The next morning… At the Daily Planet

(Jimmy exits the elevator and walks over to Clark's desk)

Jimmy:

Morning.

Clark:

Morning.

Lois:

You're in a good mood, Jimmy. How was your date last night?

Jimmy:

Let's just say that I feel like I'm on cloud nine.

Lois:

My guess is something happened last night that turned on that little light inside your brain. What did you do?

Jimmy:

I had dinner with Lori Thompson last night.

Lois:

How romantic!

Jimmy:

It was business. Check this out. I also found out that her mother is Lex Luthor's sister and he also helped build Thompson Technologies.

Lois:

Interesting. So, are you gonna go out with her again?

Jimmy:

Maybe.

(Perry interrupts the conversation)

Perry:

What are all of you standing around for? This is a world class newspaper. Let's make the news, not ignore it.

Lois & Clark and Jimmy:

Right, Chief.

(Jimmy leaves the scene. Lois writes her story while Clark is writing his)

That night…

(Clark walks over to Lois's apartment. Lois answers the door)

Lois:

Oh, hi Clark. Come on in.

Clark:

Is there something wrong, Lois? You look really distracted.

Lois:

I was thinking about my encounter with Christopher.

Clark:

What about it?

Lois:

He looked at me as if I was related to him or something.

Clark:

Maybe you reminded him of someone that probably meant a lot.

Lois:

But who?

Clark:

I don't know. I'll talk to Lori and see what I can come up with.

Lois:

Great. This is all I need in my life. Another relationship.

Clark:

It's okay, Lois. Cheer up and look on the bright side. It may not be what you think. Maybe this is just a case of mistaken identity.

Lois:

But why? What do Christopher Thompson and I have in common? We don't have the same jobs or the live in the same lifestyle. Besides, my life is with you and there's no one else I'd rather be with.

(At Metropolis General Hospital, Melanie [Lori's mother] is working on a secret project to kill her ex-husband. Melanie mixes a combination of sodium chloride, acitomenophin, nitrous oxide and a few drops of nitroglycerine and mixes it all in a bottle labelled "Patient Potion". Melanie's husband, Dr. Collins, walks in and inspects what his wife is doing)

Dr. Collins:

Hi, honey. How is your project coming along?

Melanie:

Just fine. I'm almost finished mixing the final ingredients and it should be ready to be used on our terminally ill patients.

Dr. Collins:

Why don't you put everything down and let's call it a day.

(Dr. Collins is kissing his wife, passionately)

Melanie:

Alright, you've talked me into it. Just let me freshen up.

Dr. Collins:

I'll be waiting, sweetheart.

(Melanie leaves the room for a minute and Dr. Collins reads the bottle "Patient Potion" and takes a whiff of the odor. Suddenly, the chemicals in the medicine makes Dr. Collins choke and die. Melanie then walks back in and notices that her husband is dead.)

Melanie:

That's what you get when you try to mess with my experiment and sample it before the patients do. Well, at least you were the first guinea pig to die from it. Thanks honey and have a wonderful afterlife. Ha ha ha ha!

(Melanie leaves her laboratory)

(The next scene begins at the Thompson mansion. Melanie pulls in

the driveway and walks up to the front door to visit her soon-to-be-dead ex-husband)

(Christopher answers the door)

Christopher:

Melanie! What an unexpected surprise!

Melanie:

I haven't seen you in such a long time that I decided to come over for a visit.

(Lori is walking down the staircase)

Melanie:

May I come in?

Christopher:

Of course. Please do.

Lori:

You're probably here to con some money from dad, aren't you?

Melanie:

Why would you ask such a question? I am still your mother, whether your father and I are married or not.

Lori:

Bull.

(Lori leaves)

Melanie:

What's wrong with her? Is she upset about something?

Christopher:

I'm not sure. Why are you here, Melanie?

Melanie:

We have some things to discuss about our daughter.

Christopher:

What about her? Things were fine until you showed up.

Melanie:

You know Lori's 21st birthday is coming up in a few months. Have you planned what you're going to give her?

Christopher:

I haven't thought about it yet. What did you have in mind?

Melanie:

I have picked out the perfect gift for Lori but it needs a $1000 deposit by the end of tomorrow.

Christopher:

Why don't you ask your husband? He's got tons of money

Melanie:

He's sort of unavailable at the moment. I have to go to the ladies room. Will you excuse me?

Christopher:

You do remember where it is, don't you?

Melanie:

I think I can find it from here. Thanks.

(Melanie walks into the kitchen, opens her purse and puts some toxic powder in Christopher's wine for him to drink later. Melanie walks calmly back to the living room)

Christopher:

If you promise to pay me back, I'll write you a check but just this once, for Lori. That didn't take you very long.

Melanie:

I just had to fix my make-up. I really have to go. I'll bring the gift sometime this week, okay?

Christopher:

Bye, Melanie.

Melanie:

Thanks for the money, Christopher. You won't regret it!

Christopher:

Goodbye, Melanie.

(Christopher closes the door behind her)

(Jimmy is calling Lori at home. Lori answers the phone)

Lori:

Hello?

Jimmy:

Hi, Lori. It's Jimmy. What are you doing later on tonight?

Lori:

Nothing, why?

Jimmy:

I was wondering if you would like to go out tonight.

Lori:

Where are we going?

Jimmy:

You'll see. I'll pick you up in half an hour.

Lori:

I'll be waiting.

(Lori hangs up the phone and Christopher walks to the kitchen to get a glass of wine from the bottle Melanie put the powder in.

Christopher then pours a drink and sips on his wine. A few moments later, Lori comes walking down talking to her father)

Christopher:

Where are you going, honey?

Lori:

I'm going out on a date. I'll be home around one o'clock.

Christopher:

Have fun sweetheart.

Lori:

I will, Father. Goodnight!

(Lori opens the door to leave)

Christopher:

Goodnight.

(This scene starts with Lori & Jimmy sitting up on Mt. Hope, the highest peak in Metropolis)

Lori:

This is so beautiful, seeing Metropolis at night.

Jimmy:

I couldn't agree with you more.

(Lori stares at the stars and Jimmy puts his arm around Lori)

In Melanie's laboratory…

Melanie:

I hope this invention of yours works. I have to get rid of Lori before she screws up my plans now!

Julie:

Don't worry, Melanie. Do you know how long it took me to steal this device from personnel? Because of your demands, I almost got caught.

Melanie:

Well, maybe that will teach you not to be so stupid next time. Is this thing ready?

Julie:

I have a few more adjustments to make.

Melanie:

Hurry it up, will you? I haven't got all night. Lori must be destroyed.

(Julie walks over to her laptop computer and punches a code to start the device, planted near the bottom of Mt. Hope)

(Suddenly, Mt. Hope starts to shake and Lori slides down the slope and falls off the cliff. As she's falling, she manages to hold on a long branch from a tree)

Lori:

Jimmy, help! I'm slipping!

Jimmy:

Hold on, I'll get help.

Lori:

Use my car phone.

(Jimmy calls the Daily Planet)

Lois:

Lois Lane.

Jimmy:

It's Jimmy. Find Superman and hurry.

Lois:

What happened?

Jimmy:

Lori fell down a cliff and she can't hold on much longer.

Lois:

I'll call Clark and see if he can get a hold of Superman. Where are you?

Jimmy:

Mt. Hope. You have to hurry.

(Jimmy hangs up Lori's car phone)

Lori:

Hurry, Jimmy. I can't hold on.

Jimmy:

I'll find a rope.

Lori:

Get me out of here?

(Lois calls Clark at his apartment)

Clark:

Hello?

Lois:

Hi, Clark. It's Lois. You have to find Superman. You have connections with him, don't you?

Clark:

Why? Is something wrong?

Lois:

Lori's in big trouble.

Clark:

Is she alright? Where is she?

Lois:

If you reach Superman, tell him to go to Mt. Hope. And hurry.

Clark:

Thanks, Lois. I'll get right on it.

(Superman flies in the air and finds Jimmy using a rope to save Lori)

Jimmy:

Can you reach it?

Lori:

I'll try.

(Lori tries to reach the rope and loses her grip. Lori screams for help and Superman goes down to save her)

(Superman flies down near the side of the mountain and rescues Lori.)

Superman:

Are you alright?

Lori:

I'm fine thanks to you, Superman. If it wasn't for you and Jimmy, I would've been history.

Superman:

Hang on.

(Superman flies Lori back to the top of the cliff and hugs Jimmy)

Jimmy:

Thank goodness you're alright.

Lori:

Will I ever see you again, Superman?

Superman:

I'll be seeing you sooner than you think. I've gotta fly.

(Superman flies off)

Lori:

I've never been so scared in my entire life!

Jimmy:

It's okay, it's okay, Lori. I'm here.

(Jimmy hugs Lori)

Jimmy:

I know how you feel. I was so scared that I was going to lose you and never see you again.

Lori:

I don't know what I'd do without you.

(Jimmy drives Lori home)

Lori:

Thanks for the ride, Jimmy.

(Lori gives Jimmy a nice long kiss and walks away)

Lori:

Bye.

Jimmy:

Bye.

(Lori walks in her house and notices her father sleeping on the couch. Lori tries to move her father and he wakes up not remembering a thing)

Lori:

Wake up, Father! It's getting late.

Christopher:

What time is it?

Lori:

It's 2 o'clock in the morning. I'll help you to your room.

Christopher:

It's okay, Lori. I can manage, I think.

Lori:

Did you have too much to drink?

Christopher:

Not at all. I had one glass of wine. After your mother left, I must have fallen asleep.

Lori:

I think she spiked your drink. It's time to get some sleep. We have to get up in a few hours.

Christopher:

You go on upstairs ,Lori. I'll be fine. I'm going to stay here tonight.

Lori:

Goodnight, Father.

Christopher:

Goodnight, Lori.

(The next morning…the maid Andre is making breakfast in the kitchen and her father walks in the kitchen)

Christopher:

So, how was your date with Jimmy Olsen?

Lori:

Fine.

Christopher:

Come on, Lori. Tell me what happened.

Lori:

Jimmy and I were sitting on top of Mt. Hope and suddenly we had a tiny earthquake and I fell down the cliff. Luckily Superman rescued me just in the nick of time before I would've been killed.

Christopher:

Then what happened?

Lori:

Then Jimmy drove me home and told me how he would have felt if I had died. It was the most wonderful thing anyone has ever said to me.

Christopher:

And…

Lori:

And I think I'm falling in love with him.

Christopher:

How can you love him if you've been dating for only a few weeks?

Lori:

He's the guy I've been looking for all my life. He's perfect! He's smart, has a wonderful sense of humor and is very cute. I've realized that he's the one I want to spend the rest of my life with.

Christopher:

Well, I'm so glad things are finally turning around for you Lori. I have one question to ask you though.

Lori:

What's that, Father?

Christopher:

Are you happy with Jimmy?

Lori:

Why would you ask such a thing?

Christopher:

The thing I want the most in the world is to see my daughter happy. You know that!

Lori:

I know you're looking out for the best but I'll always be daddy's little girl. Jimmy and I both care for each other and I plan on seeing him more often.

Christopher:

Just as long as my daughter is happy, I'm happy.

Lori:

Thanks for understanding, Dad.

(Lori walks into her father's den, looking for the installation papers and finds some newspaper articles that Lois Lane wrote. She looks at all the articles in his file that he's kept for a long time. Lori starts to ponder why her father's doing this)

Lori (voice over):

Why would Dad keep articles on Lois Lane? I've got to find out why.

(Lois is writing her report on a murder that happened at Metropolis General Hospital)

Clark:

Is something wrong, Lois?

Lois:

I've just finished talking to police about a murder at Metropolis General Hospital late yesterday night and found out that the victim is Dr. Collins, the husband of Lori's mother, Melanie. The autopsy report showed that he died from chemical poisoning in Melanie's laboratory.

Clark:

Check in the police database of Melanie's whereabouts and we'll ask her if she had any connection with the murder.

(Lois enters some data into her computer and displays information about Lori's mother)

Lois:

It says here that she has a degree in chemistry and a degree in nursing. She lives not far from Christopher's estate. We've got to find her.

(Lois rushes to her computer to check the police database files on Lori's mother)

(Lois and Clark leave the Planet in search of Melanie)

(At the Lane mansion…Melanie walks up to the front door and knocks. Christopher answers)

Christopher:

Hi, Melanie. Come on in.

Melanie:

I was in the neighborhood so I decided to drop by. I went to the store and used the check you wrote me to pay for a tennis bracelet for Lori. How is she?

Christopher:

Lori's doing fine.

Christopher:

Do you want something to drink?

Melanie:

I'll have a spritzer on the rocks with a twist of lemon, if you don't mind?

Christopher:

Good idea. I'll have the same.

(As Christopher's leaving the room, Melanie's checking her make-up and the phone rings)

(Lori just got out of the shower and hears the phone ring in her

room. Lori picks up the phone and hears Jimmy's voice)

Lori:

Hello?

Jimmy:

Hi Lori.

Lori:

Hi Jimmy! What's up?

Jimmy:

Nothing much. I was wondering if you have any plans tonight?

Lori:

Not that I know of. Is something wrong?

Jimmy:

No, no. Everything's fine. I was wondering if you could meet me in the Metropolis Park tonight at around 9 o'clock?

Lori:

Sure. What's this all about?

Jimmy:

You'll see tonight.

Lori:

I'll be there.

Jimmy:

Great. Bye.

Lori:

Bye.

(At the Daily Planet, Jimmy hangs up the phone from his conversation with Lori and sighs with happiness)

Clark:

Is something wrong, Jimmy?

Jimmy:

I think I've fallen in love with Lori.

Clark:

Are you sure about this?

Jimmy:

Of course I'm sure. She's perfect. She's bright, smart, good looking and is fun to be with. I couldn't think of any other woman I would like to be with.

Clark:

Do you know how Lori feels about you?

Jimmy:

She loves me and I love her. We've been going out for three weeks but it feels like months. I've decided that Lori's the one I want to spend the rest of my life with.

Clark:

Have you asked her yet?

Jimmy:

Me? Ask Lori Thompson, the daughter of a computer millionaire? The question is, how am I going to ask her?

Clark:

Why don't you take Lori to somewhere romantic, and when the time is right, give her the box and ask her to open it.

Jimmy:

I wish I was as brave as you, Clark. Do you think Lori's father will approve of this?

Clark:

If Lori's father knows that you both love each other, then there's nothing to worry about. Good luck, Jimmy, and don't worry, everything's going to be perfect. You'll see.

Jimmy:

Thanks for the advice, C.K. I need all the luck I can get.

At the Thompson mansion…

Christopher:

Here's your drink, Melanie.

Melanie:

Thanks. Do you think Jimmy might ask our daughter to many him?

Christopher:

That could be possible but when the time comes and he does ask Lori, then I'll give them the biggest wedding they've ever dreamed of.

(All of a sudden, Jimmy picks up the phone and dials Lori's father's number and waits for him to answer)

Christopher:

Excuse me, Melanie, will you?

Melanie:

Of course.

(Christopher answers the phone)

Christopher:

Hello?

Jimmy:

Hello, Mr. Thompson, it's Jimmy Olsen.

Christopher:

Oh, hi Jimmy. How are you?

Jimmy:

I'm fine, Sir.

Christopher:

This is a surprise. Do you want to talk to Lori?

Jimmy:

No, sir. I would like to talk to you. I'm taking your daughter out for the evening and I plan on asking her to marry me.

Christopher:

That's wonderful, Jimmy.

Jimmy:

Sir, Lori's the most beautiful woman I've ever known. I find she's very smart, artistic and is a woman I would be honored to call as my wife.

Christopher:

You've proven yourself worthy and devoted to Lori that I give you my congratulations and consent.

Jimmy:

Thank you, Sir, and I promise you I'll make your daughter the happiest woman on the face of this Earth.

Christopher:

She's coming down right now. Good luck tonight, Jimmy.

Jimmy:

Thank you, Sir.

(Jimmy and Christopher hang up the phone. Lori walks down the stairs to say hi to her mother)

Lori:

Who were you on the phone with?

Christopher:

Perry White just called to tell me that his evaluation reports were great and he was very impressed with you.

Lori:

That's good news. Hello, Mother. Here for any particular reason?

Melanie:

As a matter of fact, I was just visiting your father to talk about your upcoming birthday in about 2 months or so. My daughter, 20 years old and getting more beautiful by the minute.

Lori:

That's the nicest thing you've said to me in a long time. Is something going on that I don't know about?

Christopher:

No. Why did you say that?

Lori:

I feel that something must have happened that you're not sharing with me.

Melanie:

Nothing's going on. We're just in a good mood, that's all.

Lori:

I don't think so. You two are always at each other's throats and I have a hunch it has something to do with Jimmy and I.

Christopher:

No. By the way? Do you have any plans tonight because I was hoping on taking you and Jimmy out to dinner tonight.

Lori:

Thanks for the offer, Dad, but I do have plans. All Jimmy wants me to do is to meet him at the Metropolis Park in about 20 minutes.

Melanie:

You'd better get a move on before you're late. Have a good time.

Lori:

I will.

(Lori leaves the house and drives to the Metropolis Park)

Jimmy:

There you are, Lori. I was beginning to worry where you were.

Lori:

Sorry I'm late, but my mother was visiting my father and they seemed happy all of a sudden. Can you tell me what's going on here?

Jimmy:

That's why I wanted you to come here tonight. We have to talk about something.

Lori:

What is it, Jimmy?

(They sit on the blanket)

Jimmy:

There's something I have to know about you.

Lori:

What is it?

Jimmy:

How do you feel about me?

Lori:

You know I love you and would stand by you no matter what happens. How do you feel?

Jimmy:

Well, you're the only woman I've ever been in love with for a long time and I want us to be together forever.

Lori:

You know that's not possible unless we were married!

Jimmy:

Close your eyes.

Lori:

What?

Jimmy:

Just close your eyes and give me your hand.

(Lori closes her eyes and Jimmy places an engagement ring on her finger)

Jimmy:

You can open them now.

(Lori slowly opens her eyes and notices the most beautiful thing in the world on her finger)

Lori:

Is this what I think it is?

Jimmy:

It could be.

(Jimmy gets on one knee and asks Lori…)

Jimmy:

Lori Thompson, will you marry me?

Lori:

Yes! Yes! Yes! Yes, I will marry you!

(Lori kisses Jimmy)

Jimmy:

I know this ring isn't what you've expected but I hope you love it.

Lori:

I do love it, and you.

Later on that evening…

Melanie:

Those two should have been back hours ago.

Christopher:

I think I hear something.

(Christopher walks to the door and notices Lori and Jimmy pulling in their driveway)

(Lori and Jimmy walk up to the door and walk in. Lori's surprised to see her mother and father so surprised in their lives)

Melanie:

Congratulations, Lori!

Lori:

How did the two of you know all about this?

Christopher:

Let's just say a little birdie told us.

Lori:

Now I know why you both were so happy when I left. Someone must have called to tell you about Jimmy's proposal.

Jimmy:

Uh, Lori? I called them a few hours ago to tell them. I was so excited that I had to tell them before I asked you.

Lori:

I'm going to get you for this, James Olsen.

Christopher:

Now Lori, come sit down and tell us how he proposed to you.

(They all sit down on the couch)

Lori:

Jimmy and I were in the park sitting under a full moon looking at the stars when suddenly, he told me to close my eyes and then when I opened them, I noticed this ring on my finger.

Melanie:

Then what?

Lori:

Then he got on one knee and proposed to me.

Christopher:

What did you say?

Lori:

I said YES.

(Lori kisses Jimmy)

Christopher:

Have you decided when the two of you will get married?

Jimmy:

I was thinking the sooner we get married, the happier our lives will be.

Lori:

When's that?

Jimmy:

3 months.

Lori:

Excuse me?

Melanie:

Perfect! It will give us just enough time to prepare the biggest wedding of the century! Your father will and I will make all the arrangements. All you have to do is be fit into your new wedding dress and show up at the wedding.

Jimmy:

I know we have lots of things to do before the wedding but it's really late and I have to work tomorrow. I'll come and see you right after work alright, sweetheart?

Lori:

Alright. Let me walk you to the door.

(Lori and Jimmy walk out the door and talk on the porch)

Lori:

This is the happiest night of my life, Jimmy. I don't know what to say.

Jimmy:

Your thanks to me is saying "I do" three months from now and that's all the words I like to hear. I love you, Lori.

Lori:

And I love you.

(Lori and Jimmy kiss each other)

The next day…at the Daily Planet

Clark:

So, what happened last night, Jimmy?

Jimmy:

She said yes! I have personal invitations for you and Lois to be in the wedding the ceremony.

Clark:

Congratulations! Have you told Perry yet?

Jimmy:

As a matter of fact, I'm on my way to his office right now.

(Jimmy walks in Perry's office)

Perry:

Hi, Jimmy! What can I do for you?

Jimmy:

I need to ask you favor.

Perry:

Sit down here for a minute.

Jimmy:

Is something wrong, Chief?

Perry:

Well, I was just wondering why you haven't been working late these past few weeks. Are you feeling alright, Jimmy?

Jimmy:

I'm fine, chief. I've been involved with a woman for awhile now, and something great happened last night.

Perry:

Who is she?

Jimmy:

Lori Thompson.

Perry:

Is this serious?

Jimmy:

It's been like this for weeks now and I asked Lori to marry me last night.

Perry:

Congratulations! I remember the day Alice and I got married. I'll never forget that day for as long as I live. So many wonderful years together.

Jimmy:

Thanks, Chief, but the main reason I came to tell you the news is that…will you be my best man? It would mean so much to me.

Perry:

I would be honored, son. When is this wedding taking place?

Jimmy:

In about 3 months from now.

Perry:

3 months?! Why so soon?

Jimmy:

I want to get married as soon as possible and share the rest of my life with Lori.

Perry:

We have plenty of things to do, then.

Jimmy:

It's okay, Chief. Lori's parents are taking care of all the arrangements for the wedding.

Jimmy:

I was going to ask for time off after we get married.

Perry:

I'm giving you a month off with pay because you deserve it.

Jimmy:

Thanks a lot, Chief. I knew I could count on you.

(Lois & Clark notice Jimmy and Perry walk out of his office to the elevator)

Lois:

Where are they going?

Clark:

That's what I wanted to tell you.

Lois:

Tell me what?

Clark:

Jimmy's getting married.

Lois:

You're joking, right?

Clark:

No, M'am. Jimmy asked her last night.

(Two months later…)

Jimmy:

What day is it?

Clark:

It's Friday. Why?

Jimmy:

My wedding day is in a few days! I have to go pick out a tux right away.

Perry:

No need to, Jimmy. It's waiting to be picked up. All you have to do is drive to the Maurice's and give them your name.

(At the church…in Lori's dressing room)

Melanie:

You're going to look great, Lori.

Lori:

I hope I can get these butterflies out of my stomach before the ceremony starts.

Melanie:

You'll be fine. Trust me.

(Melanie walks out for a minute and sees Jimmy waiting for Lori at the entrance to the church doors)

Jimmy:

Is Lori ready yet?

Melanie:

She's just about ready. How are you feeling?

Jimmy:

Nervous, but I'm really excited for Lori to be my wife.

(Priest walks over to Jimmy)

Priest:

We're ready to start the ceremony.

Melanie:

I'll get her.

(The priest walks in the church to his position and sees Lori and Jimmy waiting for the Wedding March song to play)

(The ceremony starts and Lori walks down the isle with her father and her mother at the front as her maid of honor)

Priest:

We are gathered here today to celebrate the coming of Lori Thompson and James Olsen in holy matrimony. Do you, Lori Thompson, take thee, James Olsen, to be your lawfully wedded husband for richer or poorer, for sickness and in health until death do you part?

Lori:

I do.

Priest:

And do you, James Olsen, take thee, Lori Thompson, to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health until death do you part?

Jimmy:

I do.

Priest:

By the power invested in me, and from the prayers invested in all of these family and friends, I now pronounce you husband and wife. You may now kiss your bride, James.

(They kiss)

(At the wedding reception)

Christopher:

That was a great ceremony, honey.

Lori:

Thanks for everything, Father. You don't know how much this really means to me and Jimmy. We thank you from the bottom of our hearts.

(Suddenly Christopher falls to the ground and collapses)

Lori:

Are you alright, Father? Father, wake up! Someone help my father!

Jimmy:

What happened?

Lori:

Something's wrong with my dad. We have to get him to the hospital right away.

At the hospital…

Doctor Hamilton:

I'm glad you're here, Lori. Your father's in emergency care and there's something terribly wrong with him.

Lori:

What is it, Doctor?

Doctor Hamilton:

He has cancer.

Lori:

Oh no!

***

Lois & Clark Episode # 2

(At the Metropolis Hospital)

Lori:

Are you positive about my father's condition, Dr. Hamilton?

Dr. Hamilton:

When we admitted your father in emergency care, we took a few x-rays to see what made him collapse and found that his whole body is full of cancer.

Lori:

How serious is this? Why couldn't you have detected this earlier?

Dr. Hamilton:

I know you have lots of questions to ask but we'll have to do some major surgery to try and remove any tumors but the chances are very slim.

Jimmy:

How slim?

Dr. Hamilton:

If any tumors are too big to remove, then we will have to give him chemotherapy to shrink them.

Lori:

Has this been proven to work?

Dr. Hamilton:

It has worked in many cases but in your father's case, the chances are very slim for him to recover from this disease.

Lori:

We have to look at the possibilities here. He could die within days, weeks, months or even years. We have to save him now. I can't lose him. He means so much to me.

Jimmy:

We can't give up hope yet. The doctors are trying to do their best on curing cancer patients but we all know there isn't a cure. Thanks for everything, Dr. Hamilton.

Lori:

Where is my father?

Dr. Hamilton:

He's in emergency care. We've tried to stabilize him, but so far, he's not responding. Just wait right here and I'll find a nurse to talk to you. Excuse me.

(Dr. Hamilton leaves)

(Lori and Jimmy sit in the waiting room and Lori starts to cry)

Jimmy:

What's wrong, Lori?

Lori:

I was just thinking. What if he doesn't make it? What are we going to do?

Jimmy:

Your father is strong and will beat this disease no matter what it takes. Just hang in there, okay? You know that I'll stand by you no matter what happens.

Lori:

I'm so glad to have married you. I love you, Jimmy.

(They kiss briefly and Melanie [in disguise] walks in)

Melanie (Nurse Holland):

Hi. I'm nurse Holland. You must be Lori and Jimmy.

Lori:

Yes, hi. How is my father?

Melanie:

There has been some miraculous trauma going on. He's in a deep coma but his heart's stabilized and his breathing has returned to normal.

Jimmy:

Can we see him?

Melanie:

Sure but be aware that he can hear you. Try not to stay too long.

Lori:

We won't. Thank you, nurse. You've been a great help.

(Lori and Jimmy walk into Christopher's room)

Lori:

Hi, Daddy. It's me, Lori. I know that you can hear me but I was so scared that you were going to leave Jimmy and I but somehow it's a sign that you don't want to just yet. I love you, Daddy. Please be alright.

(Lori holds Christopher's hand)

(Jimmy sits beside Lori and holds her hand and Christopher's)

(Melanie comes in)

Melanie:

I think it's time. Your father needs some rest now. You have two visitors here to see you in the waiting room.

Jimmy:

Thank you, nurse. Let us know if there's any change to Mr. Thompson's condition.

(Jimmy and Lori leave)

(Nurse Collins has a devious smile and says…)

Melanie (voice over): Oh, I'm sure I will.

(Melanie gives Christopher an injection of "Patient Potion" that will make him come out of his coma)

(Christopher's waking up)

Christopher:

Melanie. Where am I?

Melanie:

It's alright, Christopher. I'm here. You're in the hospital. Lori and Jimmy are worried sick about you.

(Lois and Clark are sitting in the waiting room)

Lois:

Lori! Jimmy! We came as soon as we could.

(Lois hugs Lori and Clark hugs Jimmy)

Lori:

Thanks, Lois. How's Perry taking this?

Clark:

Not too well. He left the Planet for a few hours just so that he could come spend some time with your father.

Jimmy:

Where is he?

Lois:

He's at the nurse's station, waiting to go in.

(All four sit down on the couch in the room alone)

Clark:

How is he?

Lori:

He's in a coma. Nurse Collins told us that his heart is stabilized and his breathing has returned to normal.

Lois:

That's really good news. What have you found out about why he collapsed?

Jimmy:

When the doctors took him into emergency care, they took x-rays and found tumors in his body.

Clark:

Do you know what the diagnosis is?

Lori:

It's cancer of the stomach. They're going to do emergency surgery if he doesn't come out of his coma soon. They said to wait for a while and if his condition gets worse, who knows what will happen.

(Perry comes in running and he's out of breath)

Lois:

Chief! What happened?

Perry:

Thank goodness I found you guys. I don't know what happened but he's conscious and he's feeling fine.

Lori:

What! You can't be serious?

Perry:

It's true. Just as I was walking in, he looked at me and recognized me.

Jimmy:

It's a miracle!

(All five go to the nurse's station)

Melanie (Nurse Holland):

Great news, Lori. Your father is conscious and he wants to see you.

Lori:

Can we all see him?

Melanie (Nurse Holland):

Sure. Go in quietly. He's resting.

(Lori, Jimmy, Lois, Clark and Perry walk in to Christopher's room)

(Christopher wakes up)

Christopher:

Lori! My precious little Lori.

Lori:

Oh, Dad!

(Lori hugs her father)

Lori:

How are you feeling?

Christopher:

My head's spinning a little but I feel fine.

Jimmy:

But how can that be? A few minutes ago, you were in a coma and now you feel fine?

Christopher:

Well, I don't think old glory is ready to take me in yet. Lori, let me explain. I'm really sorry to have ruined your wedding.

(As Christopher's talking, Clark uses his super-vision and notices a bottle behind the bed that says "Patient Potion" and puts it in his coat)

Lori:

It's okay, Daddy. I understand. It wasn't your fault.

Lois (whispering to Clark):

Are you alright, Clark?

Clark (whispering):

I'm fine. Let's get out of here because I have something to show you. Can you get hold of Professor Dunn?

Lois (whispering):

I can try. Why?

Clark (whispering):

Just do it and tell him we'll meet at his lab.

Lois:

Uh, Christopher? Clark and I have some unfinished business to take care of. We'll come by and visit you later. We'll meet you at the Planet, Chief.

Perry:

O.K.

(Lois and Clark leave)

Perry:

Listen. I know this has been a difficult time for you two so I'll let you three be alone while I have a newspaper to run. I'll come by after hours to visit.

Christopher:

Bye, Perry.

Jimmy:

I'll come by later, Chief. I want to stay with Lori for a bit.

Perry:

Sure. Take all the time you need. I'll see you at the Planet.

Lori:

Thanks for everything, Perry.

(Perry leaves)

Christopher:

So, Dr. Hamilton told you everything, huh?

Jimmy:

I'm afraid so. He said there is a chance that if the tumors are small enough, then there is a possibility to remove the cancer and treat it.

Christopher:

I can't let this disease ruin my life. I'm going to fight it and you're going to help me.

Lori:

How, Dad?

Christopher:

By praying that I'll be fine and we'll all live a happy life together.

Lori:

I sure hope so, because who knows what would happen if you left us?

Christopher:

I know this is all sudden but there is something I want you to do, Lori.

Lori:

Anything, Dad. Name it.

Christopher:

I want you to see your grandmother and ask her to tell you about my sister.

Lori:

Your sister?

Christopher:

She'll explain everything to you. You must hurry.

Lori:

Sure thing, Dad. Jimmy and I will get right on it.

At Professor Dunn's lab…

Professor Dunn:

I came as soon as you called, Ms Lane. What seems to be the trouble?

Clark:

I've found a bottle with the inscription "Patient Potion" and I was wondering if you could analyze it for us. We need all the information we can get. How long will it take?

Professor Dunn:

I could have your answers within the next few hours.

Lois:

Great. Call us at the Daily Planet the minute you're finished.

Professor Dunn:

I will.

Lois:

Come on, Clark. Let's go.

(Lois and Clark leave and the next scene starts off with Lois and Clark taking off in the company's jeep)

Lois:

By the way, how did you find that bottle?

Clark:

I, uh, noticed it on the floor and picked it up.

Lois:

Why didn't you tell me?

Clark:

I had to be discreet. It looked suspicious.

Lois:

Do you have any idea what it is?

Clark:

No. I could smell it on the floor of the hospital room.

Lois:

I wonder what it could be? Did Lori ever tell Jimmy about her mother?

Clark:

Not that I know of. I remember seeing an article about her in the Planet a couple of months ago. It claimed that she was Lex Luthor's sister but apparently she got re-married to another guy and changed her last name.

At the Daily Planet…

(Lois rushes to her computer to check the police database files on Lori's mother)

Lois:

She's married to this guy named Tom Collins. Clark! That's the nurse who was taking care of Christopher at the hospital. She disguised herself to prevent Lori from finding out.

Clark:

Good thinking. How did you notice it was her?

Lois:

I noticed that Melanie had green eyes and had the same complexion as Nurse Holland.

(The phone rings)

Lois:

Lois Lane. Thank you, professor, we're on our way.

Clark:

What did he find out?

Lois:

He wants to show us right away at the lab.

At the lab…

Lois:

What did you find out, professor? Prof. Dunn:

This is no ordinary formula. I've found out that whoever created this stuff, has the ability to create potions for people to survive comas to return to their loved ones before saying goodbye.

Clark:

Goodbye?

Prof. Dunn:

It's a complex process but the ingredients in this formula are sodium chloride, acitomenophin, nitrous oxide and a few drops of nitroglycerine to stabilize the acid levels.

Lois:

But if some of those chemicals were taken internally, can it kill you?

Prof. Dunn:

As a matter of fact Ms Lane, you're absolutely right but the person who created this formula might want something from this patient.

Clark:

I don't think I would call this being saved. It's like she's brought him back from the dead for one purpose and one purpose only.

Lois:

What could it be?

Clark:

I don't know. Thank you for your time, professor.

Professor Dunn:

Glad I could be of service.

(Lois & Clark leave the lab and return to the Daily Planet)

Lois:

What are you doing, Clark?

Clark:

I'm checking to see what connections Melanie has with Lori and Christopher.

Lois:

An ex-wife maybe?

Clark:

Precisely. Here it is.

(Clark checks all the information in the hospital's main computer file on Melanie Collins but the screen says "access denied")

Lois:

How are we gonna get in?

Clark:

There must be a secret numerical password.

Lois:

Which will take you a century to figure out. Why don't I get us some coffee to pass the time?

Clark:

That would be great, Lois.

(While Lois leaves for the coffee machine, Clark uses his super-typing speed to figure out the numerical code to get in which is Christopher's home phone number)

Clark:

I'm in Melanie's personal file.

Lois:

How did you do that?

Clark:

I've been watching you do the same thing so I've figured out how to decode these things. It says here that Melanie's created this formula to make herself a millionaire. By putting herself in Christopher's will.

Lois:

We have to stop her from doing this.

At the hospital… Lois asks for Melanie and she's getting suspicious.

Lois:

Hello, Nurse Holland. Remember me?

Melanie:

You're that reporter from the Daily Planet, right?

Lois:

Yes. You have a good memory.

Melanie:

Please, come into my office.

(Lois steps in)

Melanie:

Is there anything I can do for you?

Lois:

As a matter of fact, there is. A friend of mine is in this hospital and I saw you giving him a needle filled with this liquid. Do you know where it came from?

(Lois shows Melanie the "patient potion")

Melanie:

I, uh, don't know. I've never seen it before in my entire life. Why would you ask me a question like that?

Lois:

I found this chemical in Mr. Thompson's room. Are you sure you've never seen this before?

Melanie:

I'm positive. Now, could you please leave? I have some patients to check up on.

(Lois leaves the office and comes out of the hospital)

Clark:

What did you find out?

Lois:

I know she's guilty and we have to find a way to prove it.

(Lori's at home calling her grandmother on the phone)

Lois's mom:

Hello?

Lori:

Hi, grandma. Are you busy?

Lois's mom:

I'm never to busy to talk to my granddaughter. How are things with your new husband?

Lori:

Jimmy's fine but something terrible happened to dad.

Lois's mom:

What?

Lori:

He collapsed. Jimmy and I took him to the hospital and the doctors took some x-rays and found tumors all over his body. Dad has cancer, Grandma.

Lois's mom:

How is my son?

Lori:

He's doing okay for now but he told me something really weird and wanted me to call you right away.

Lois's mom:

What's that?

Lori:

He told me to talk to you about his sister.

Lois's mom:

I see. Well, a long time ago when I was your age, I was pregnant and still in school. When I had your father, I couldn't afford to keep him so I had no choice but to let another family adopt him. A few years later, I was pregnant again and had two baby girls named Lucy and Lois.

Lori:

Did you ever tell Dad about his sisters, grandma?

Lois's mom:

Of course. At first I didn't because I was so upset about giving your father up that I didn't want to relive the pain I was going through. Whenever your father always came down to visit your grandfather and I, he always asked about his sisters and how they were doing. Lois and Lucy grew up never knowing they had a brother who's still alive.

Lori:

That's funny because I had to get some files from his desk a couple of months ago and I found a huge file containing articles that Lois wrote in the Daily Planet.

Lois's mom:

How are you gonna get your father and Lois together?

Lori:

I'll think of something but thanks for all the information, Grandma. I can't wait to tell Lois the truth!

(At home, Lori's trying to page Lois at the Planet)

(Lois's beeper beeps)

Lois:

It's Lori. I've gotta call her.

(Lois calls Lori from a payphone)

Lori:

Hello?

Lois:

Hi Lori, it's me, Lois. What seems to be the trouble?

Lori:

I need to see you right away.

Lois:

Can't this wait?

Lori:

I'm afraid it can't. Can you come over to my place? We have to talk.

Lois:

Sure. Bye.

(Lois returns to the jeep)

Clark:

What was that all about?

Lois:

I don't know but I'll soon find out. I have to run an errand but I'll be back later. Bye, Clark.

Clark:

Bye, Lois.

At the Thompson mansion…

(Lois knocks on the door and Lori answers)

Lori:

Thanks for stopping by, Lois. I'm so glad you could come on such short notice.

Lois:

No trouble at all. What's wrong?

Lori:

Lois, there's something I have to tell you that's very important in your life, right now.

Lois:

What is it?

Lori:

A long time ago before you and your sister were born, your mother had a baby boy. Since your mom was still in high school and didn't work, she didn't have enough money to support herself and her newborn son that she decided that the best thing for her to do was to give the baby up for adoption. She couldn't tell you Lois, because she didn't want to re-live the horrible memories of not seeing her son after she gave him up.

Lois:

Who is he?

Lori:

My father.

Lois:

You mean you're telling me that Christopher Thompson is my brother and you're my niece?

Lori:

That's right. I know this is a sudden shock but my father asked me to find out and wants to see you right away at the hospital.

Lois:

We've got to get down there right away.

(Lois & Lori enter the hospital and head for the elevators)

Lois:

I have to use the payphone for a minute.

Lori:

I'll be in the waiting room.

(Lori walks in the elevator and Lois makes a phone call to the Daily Planet. Perry's phone rings)

Perry:

Hello?

Lois:

Hi, Chief. It's Lois.

Perry:

Where are you?

Lois:

Something came up and I'm visiting someone at the Metropolis General hospital.

Perry:

Are you alright?

Lois:

I'm fine, Chief, but I probably won't be in for a few days until everything's alright with my brother, Christopher Thompson.

Perry:

Brother? Did you say brother?

Lois:

That's right, Chief. I just found out that I have a brother and a niece.

Perry:

That's great, Lois! Take all the time you need but keep me posted on Christopher's condition, alright?

Lois:

Sure, Chief. I'll call you later.

Perry:

Take care, Lois.

Lois:

Bye, and thanks.

(Lois enters the elevator and exits at the second floor. She then walks to the waiting room and sees Lori waiting for her.)

Lois:

Sorry I took so long, Lori, but I had some things to clear up at work.

Lori:

It's okay.

Lois:

How is he?

Lori:

I'm sure he's awake but I'll check.

(Lori walks in her father's room and notices him resting)

Lori:

Hi, Dad. How are you?

Christopher:

I'm fine, Lori. Have you found my sister yet?

Lori:

Why don't you see for yourself.

(Lori walks out of the door and says…)

Lori:

My father would like to see you, Lois.

(Lois walks in)

Lois:

Hi, Christopher.

Christopher:

Oh, thank you, Lori! You finally found my sister after all these years.

Lori:

You're welcome, Dad. You two have a lot of catching up to do. I'll be across the room if you need me.

Christopher:

Thanks, sweetheart.

(Lori leaves the room and sits in the waiting room)

Christopher:

Do you know how important this is for us to see each other?

Lois:

I was shocked when Lori asked me to come by the mansion. I was caught off guard when she told me the entire truth.

Christopher:

I know Lori didn't mean to scare you but she had to do the only thing she could for you to find about me before it's too late.

Lois:

So? What's so important that you wanted to talk to me about?

Christopher:

The doctors will have to operate on me in a couple of days and they said that there is a slight chance I might not make it. What I'm trying to ask you is, will you take care of Lori for me?

(Lois is frozen with surprise)

Lois:

I don't know what to say. I hardly even know you or Lori.

Christopher:

I know but I have to know now before I die that Lori will be taken care of. Please say you'll do it.

Lois:

I don't know. Your daughter isn't a little girl anymore. In fact, she's married.

Christopher:

I understand that but she's the only daughter I have and I want the best for her. Please say you'll do it.

Lois:

Well. Why don't you get some rest, Christopher. It's been a long day and I think the pain medicine is working right about now. I'll come by later to see how you're feeling.

Christopher:

Goodbye, Lois, and thanks for taking care of my little girl.

Lois:

You're welcome. Sleep tight.

At the Thompson Mansion…Lois, Clark and Jimmy are walking through the front doors.

Lori:

The guest rooms are the second door on the right.

Lois:

Clark, I'll be upstairs later. There is something I have to talk to Lori about.

Clark:

Sure. Don't be up too late. We all have to go to the hospital early.

Lois:

I won't.

(Clark kisses Lois on the lips and heads on upstairs)

Jimmy:

Don't be long, Lori. I'll be in the shower, waiting.

Lori:

I'll be there soon.

(Lori kisses Jimmy on the lips and he walks upstairs)

Lori:

What do you want to tell me, aunt Lois?

Lois:

When I was talking to your father a while ago, he said that the doctors have to operate on him in a couple of days and said that he might not make it. He asked me to take care of you if something happened.

Lori:

He won't make it, Aunt Lois. I just know it.

Lois:

He has to fill out his will right away.

Lori:

I can't let him give anything to my mother. I know she'll think of something in order to get what she wants.

Lois:

We'll tell him in the morning, alright? It's getting late. Why don't we go home and get some rest. Things will be better in the morning.

Lori:

Thanks, Aunt Lois. Goodnight.

Lois:

Goodnight, Lori.

(At the Metropolis General hospital…Lori, Jimmy, Clark and Lois are sitting in the waiting room. Then Perry and Melanie walk in the waiting room.)

Perry:

Lois! Lori! How are you?

Lois:

I'm fine, Chief. But I'm not sure if Christopher's alright.

Perry:

Can't we see him?

Lori:

The nurses are just walking in to check up on him.

(Melanie walks out and Lori notices that Nurse Holland is really her mother)

Lori:

Mother! You were taking care of Dad and didn't even tell me about it? How could you?

Melanie:

I'm so sorry but I had so many patients to take care of.

Lori:

How did you know that my father has a serious illness, Mother, or should I say, Mrs. Holland?

Melanie:

How did you figure it out?

Lori:

It was obvious. Your eyes gave you away.

Melanie:

And you played stupid all this time.

Lori:

Damn right. Besides, dad wants to see all of us, excluding you, to talk about something that he has to clear up.

Melanie:

They can't take him away like that. He's so young and has so much more to live for.

(What Lori and the others don't know is that the nurses that are checking up on Christopher Thompson are Melanie's assistants and they're giving him high doses of morphine and leaving the room. Melanie walks into Christopher's room and talks to him under hypnosis.)

Melanie:

You will sign everything to me and only me. You will give your business to your daughter Lori and force her to give me all the profits. I love you, Christopher, and I will take care of you. Ha ha ha ha!

(Melanie laughs hysterically)

Christopher:

I will sign everything to you Melanie (in a hypnotic voice).

Melanie:

I think we've done our jobs quite well, guys. Let's go to my new mansion and celebrate!

(Melanie and her assistants put back on their masks and leave the door quietly. Lori gets a good glimpse of the three doctors who were supposedly checking on her father. She notices that they were injecting her mother's "Patient Potion" to sedate Christopher.

Lori:

Where's my mother? She's disappeared.

Jimmy:

Something really strange is going on here.

(Then the real nurse comes walking in)

Nurse:

You may all see Mr. Thompson now. He's woken up and wants to see you all.

(They all walk in Christopher's room)

Christopher:

I'm so glad you're all here. First of all, you all know that the doctors have to operate on me and they say that there's a chance I might not make it, therefore, I have decided to fill out my will in front of the people I love and care for. I'm leaving my estate and personal possessions to my wonderful ex-wife, Melanie Thompson.

Lois:

Are you crazy? Why are you doing this?

Christopher:

I'm doing this because I love my ex-wife and I know that she'll take care of everything if I pass away.

Lois:

You can't! Your ex-wife got out of jail a few months ago for robbery and forgery. She'll ruin everything!

Clark:

Why don't you let me talk to him? I'll see you in the cafeteria in a few minutes.

(All of them leave except for Clark)

Christopher:

Is something the matter, Mr. Kent?

Clark:

Yes, there is, sir. I happen to know your ex-wife and what she's trying to do to you. Melanie's trying to take all your profits away from you and destroy your company. You can't let her do this!

Christopher:

How could I have been so stupid! Wait a minute, my lawyer is supposed to sign my will.

Clark:

Do you know where it is?

Christopher:

I had a messenger deliver it to Lori this morning. Oh my gosh, Melanie must be at the mansion. You have to stop her, Mr. Kent. My little girl could be in serious trouble.

Clark:

I'll think of something. Just rest and I'll find Superman.

(Clark leaves the hospital and flies to the Thompson mansion as Superman.)

Lori:

Let us go, mother! I know everything. You used dad to get his money and then you drugged him.

Melanie:

Your education really paid off, didn't it, Lori?

Lori:

What does that have to do with anything?

Melanie:

When you were young, you were a worthless human being and capable of doing nothing. You remember the pain I caused you? All the bruises, the scars, the emotional pain? Your father deserves to die but my "Patient Potion" gave me millions, thanks to your father's will. I will not rest until I see your father dead.

Lori:

You'll never get away with this. All those years of abuse. And to think I thought everything was all my fault but I knew you married dad for his money. You don't love him. You despise the man. I hope they lock you behind bars so that you will stop killing people by drugging them. I went into dad's desk and found the court papers you received years ago for murder of 15 patients in the last 20 years. Your gonna get caught sooner or later.

Melanie:

On the contrary, Lori, my brother Lex Luthor gave me some of his left-over kryptonite which has just enough power to destroy Superman. If that doesn't work, this bomb should do the trick. I've set it for 10 minutes which gives me plenty of time to make my getaway.

Lori:

You wouldn't dare!

Melanie:

Wanna bet? My assistants have been very busy mixing a drink strong enough to kill Superman with one sip. Hide the prisoners and make sure they can't be heard! Ha ha ha!

(Lori yells)

Lori:

Superman, help us!

(Superman flies down and crashes in on the roof)

Superman:

Where are they, Melanie?

Melanie:

They're in good hands, Superman. Why don't you sit down for a minute and have a drink? We have much to talk about.

Superman:

That won't be necessary. I know everything about your evil plot and I'm going to make sure that you'll be put back in jail for a very long time.

Melanie:

Bring Superman his special drink.

(Lori and Jimmy are in the basement listening through a vent to what Melanie is saying and Lori yells to Superman what she is about to do to him.)

Lori (yelling):

Melanie is going to give you a drink with kryptonite in it. It's strong enough to kill you. Jimmy and I are in the basement with a bomb attached to our feet which is about to explode in 10 minutes.

(Superman uses his super-hearing to hear what Lori is saying.)

(Melanie returns with her kryptonite drink)

Melanie:

Here you go, Superman.

Superman:

This drink looks frozen. I have to have hot drinks in order to revive my strength.

(Superman uses his heat rays to make the drink explode and Melanie tries to run for cover.)

Superman:

Oh no, you don't!

(Superman makes a cage out of the tool shed to lock Melanie up.)

Melanie:

You'll never rescue Lori and Jimmy. That bomb is impossible to de-activate.

(Superman rushes to the basement and unties Lori and Jimmy.)

Lori:

Thank goodness you came here just in time, Superman. I've figured out how to de-activate the bomb. We don't have much time left.

(Lori figures out that the code to Christopher's safe is the one to disconnect the timing of the bomb and the countdown stops at 10 seconds.)

Jimmy:

You did it!

(Jimmy hugs Lori)

At the hospital…

Lois:

Are you alright?

Lori:

Jimmy and I are fine, thanks to Superman. My mom is at the Metropolis jail waiting for her trial. The judge wants me and my father to testify against her. Did the operation go well?

Lois:

Lori, sit down. I don't know how to say this but you're father didn't make it. He passed away an hour ago.

Lori:

How?

Lois:

He went into a coma and his heart stopped beating.

(Lori cries)

(The next scene begins at the Thompson mansion. Lori, Lois, Clark, and Jimmy are sitting in the living room, drinking tea)

Lori:

I want to thank you all for everything you did to put my mother back where she belongs. But most of all, I want to thank you, Jimmy. You were there for me when I needed you the most. I couldn't have done it without you.

Jimmy:

I'm very proud of you.

Lori:

Proud of what?

Jimmy:

For being so brave. For awhile there, I thought you lost hope.

Lois:

I know it's really hard losing a parent. As long as you have moral support from your friends and family, we'll manage.

(The next day at the kitchen table…Lori walks down to breakfast

and notices her plate ready with a box of flowers just waiting to be opened)

Jimmy:

Happy birthday, Lori!

(Lori opens the box and notices 21 beautiful roses)

Lori:

They're so beautiful. Thank you, sweetheart.

(Lois gives Lori a birthday card)

Lois:

Someone put this card in your mailbox this morning.

(Lori notices the card)

Lori:

I wonder who it's from?

(Lori looks at the card and the message written. It says: Come to the Daily Planet newsroom at 10:00 pm, alone)

Clark:

What does it say?

Lori:

It says: "Come to the Daily Planet newsroom at 10:00 pm, alone." Do any of you know what this is all about?

Clark:

Perry is holding his annual budget meeting.

Lori:

That's strange. Why would he send me a secret message?

Lois:

I don't know.

(That night…Lori arrives at the Daily Planet garage, parks her car and heads for the elevator. She heads up to the Editorial floor and steps out of the elevator. She starts walking in total darkness

trying to find a light switch.)

Lori:

Hello? Perry? Is anyone here?

All:

Surprise! Happy Birthday!!!!

(Lori smiles with surprise)

Jimmy:

Happy birthday, sweetheart!

Lori:

This is so nice of you guys. Throwing a birthday party for me.

Jimmy:

I wanted this birthday to be really special for you.

Lori:

Spending it with you, my new friends and my family, is all the thanks I want.

Lois & Clark:

Happy birthday, Lori!!!

(Lois hugs her niece)

Lori:

Thanks, Aunt Lois. Thanks Clark. What are you guys doing here? I thought you both were in Chicago on business?

Lois:

We had to think of something to say so that you would think we were away for your birthday.

Clark:

We couldn't miss this party because we want this to be the best party you've ever had.

Lori:

I couldn't agree with you more. I never expected this at all. I was hoping to spend a quiet evening with my husband and a few friends but I guess Jimmy's taken care of all of that.

Lois:

Clark and I were surprised when he asked us to cover up for your party. He wanted this to be really special.

Lori:

I have the most wonderful husband in the world that not even millions can buy because you can't buy love. You win love by being yourself. That's what counts.

Clark:

I forgot Lori's present at my apartment. I'll be back in a few minutes.

Lori:

Why don't you take my car, Clark?

(Lori throws him the keys)

Clark:

Thanks. I'll be right back.

(Clark leaves the Daily Planet and Superman flies to the window of the Daily Planet waiting to see Lori. Jimmy walks over to Lori.)

Jimmy:

Someone's here to see you.

Lori:

Who is it?

(Jimmy walks Lori over to the window to see Superman)

Jimmy:

Why don't you two talk for awhile?

(Lori walks up to the balcony and walks over to Superman)

Superman:

Happy birthday.

Lori:

I didn't expect to see you here, Superman.

Superman:

Clark told me today was your birthday so I decided to come and give you a special gift.

Lori:

You didn't have to do this!

Superman:

I wanted to. Open it.

(Lori opens a red & blue box with a yellow ribbon and notices a gold ring with an "C" engraved on it.)

Lori:

It's beautiful. I don't know what to say?

Superman:

You don't have to say anything. You're a very special woman, Lori, and your father wanted nothing but happiness in your life. He also wanted me to give you this.

(Lori opens a small box which has his wedding band in it)

Lori:

Why? This was so important to him and I wanted to put it in the family vault for safe keeping.

Superman:

He wanted you to give this to Jimmy in his memory.

Lori:

This is really nice of you, Superman. Would you like to stay for the party while it still lasts?

Superman:

I would love to but I have to go. I have other things to take care of.

(Superman flies off)

(Lori cries a tear and walks towards the doors of the balcony)

Jimmy:

Is everything alright?

Lori:

Everything's fine.

Jimmy:

That ring Superman gave you is really beautiful.

Lori:

He brought me my father's wedding band. My father asked him before he died to give it to you in his memory. I think it looks better on your hand.

(Lori puts the ring on Jimmy's hand)

Jimmy:

It's gorgeous.

(Clark walks back in the Daily Planet)

Lois:

What took you so long, Clark? Your apartment is only five minutes away from here!

Clark:

I had a flat tire on the way so I went to the gas station to change it. Where's Lori?

Lois:

She's dancing with Jimmy.

(The song finally ends, Lori and Jimmy walk over to Lois and Clark)

Lori:

You're back. You were gone a long time.

Clark:

I had some problems with your car but everything's okay with it now. Here.

(Lori opens Clark's gift and notices that it's a ring with L, a diamond, a heart, another diamond, and the letter J to represent "Lori loves Jimmy")

Lori:

Thanks, Clark. It's beautiful.

(Perry walks out with a large cake with 21 candles and everyone sings "Happy Birthday")

(Lori blows out the candles and cuts pieces of cake. The scene ends with the camera pointing to the cake)

~The End~

New Episode of Lois & Clark

At the Thompson mansion…Lori and Jimmy have just returned from their honeymoon.

(Lori & Jimmy walk in the house with their suitcases)

Jimmy:

I am so tired that I'm going to take a shower. Do you want to join me?

Lori:

I'll be there in a few minutes, honey. I'm gonna call my Aunt Lois and let her know that we're back.

(Jimmy brings the suitcases upstairs)

(Lori calls her aunt)

(The phone rings and Lois picks up the phone)

Lois:

Hello?

Lori:

Hi, Aunt Lois.

Lois:

Hi, Lori. When did you get in?

Lori:

Just a few minutes ago. Jimmy and I decided to take an early flight home.

Lois:

So? How was your honeymoon?

Lori:

It was fantastic.

Lois:

Where did you go?

Lori:

Jimmy and I went to Paris, France.

Lois:

I didn't know you could speak French.

Lori:

My father wanted me to learn another language so I took French all through high school.

Lois:

Well, I'm glad to hear that everything was great and I couldn't be more happy for the two of you.

Lori:

Thanks. So, how are things with you and Clark?

Lois:

What's that supposed to mean?

Lori:

I know you are in love with him.

Lois:

Not that I know of but when the time comes, you'll be the first to know.

Lori:

Is that a promise?

Lois:

You bet.

Lori:

I just thought I'd call to let you know that Jimmy and I are back, safe and sound. Listen, why don't you and Clark come over for dinner tomorrow night?

Lois:

Let me find out what Clark has planned and I'll call you as soon as I can.

Lori:

Great. Bye.

Lois:

Bye.

(Lois and Lori hang up the phone)

(Lori runs upstairs to join her husband in the shower)

The next day at the Daily Planet…Jimmy walks into Perry's office.

Perry:

Welcome back, Jimmy.

Jimmy:

Thanks, Chief.

Perry:

Did you and Lori have a good time?

Jimmy:

We had a blast. Nothing but rest and relaxation on the Ivory Coast.

Perry:

That's what I like to hear.

Jimmy:

Anything exciting happen while I was gone?

Perry:

Not really. The French media was constantly bugging us about your honeymoon in France.

Jimmy:

And what did you say?

Perry:

I just said that you were vacationing around the country and didn't want to be disturbed.

Jimmy:

Great thinking, Chief. I knew I could count on you.

Clark walks into Perry's office)

Clark:

Welcome back, Jimmy.

Jimmy:

Thanks, C.K. Lori tells me a lot of things are going on between you and Lois.

Clark:

It's not what you think.

Jimmy:

I don't know, C.K. From what Lori tells me, there's a lot of chemistry between you two.

Clark:

I think I hear my phone ringing.

(Clark walks out of Perry's office and walks towards his desk)

(Lois gets out of the elevator and walks towards her desk)

Lois:

Morning, Clark.

Clark:

Morning, Lois. By the way, what did you tell Lori about our relationship?

Lois:

Nothing much. Just the fact that we've been involved. By the way, do you have any plans for tonight?

Clark:

Stop changing the subject, Lois!

Lois:

I am not. Lori is my niece and she's family. Besides, we were bugging Jimmy about his relationship, right?

Clark:

You do have a point, Lois, but let's just keep this between you and me.

Lois:

Alright.

Clark:

What did you have in mind about tonight?

Lois:

Lori invited us to dinner. Would you like to go?

Clark:

Sure. I'll pick you up around seven?

Lois:

Great.

(Jimmy walks over to Lois & Clark)

Lois:

Well, there's the man of the hour! Welcome back.

Jimmy:

Thanks. It's really great to be back. Does the invitation still stand for dinner tonight?

Clark:

Yes, it does. We'll be there around seven.

Jimmy:

Perfect.

At the Metropolis jail, Melanie has a private conversation with her former lab partner.

Melanie:

If I'm going to take revenge on my daughter, it has to be now. How is the formula coming along?

Sasha:

It's just about ready. I'll have you out of there by midnight tonight.

Melanie:

Excellent.

Sasha:

And if this doesn't work?

Melanie:

Would I lie?

Sasha:

I don't know. Are you sure this formula is supposed to melt metal bars?

Melanie:

Yes, I'm positive. Don't forget our plan, Sasha. I'm counting on you.

Sasha:

I promise I won't fail.

Melanie:

Great. I'll see you in a couple of hours and then, my freedom! Ha ha ha!

At the Thompson mansion…the doorbell rings. Lori answers the door.

Lori:

Hi! Come on in. I'm so glad you two could come on such short notice.

Lois:

No problem at all. Anyways, it's been awhile since we last saw each other.

Clark:

Where's Jimmy?

Lori:

He'll be down in a minute. He just finished getting ready.

Lois:

And I thought we were the ones to take hours to make ourselves look presentable.

Lori:

Please. Sit down.

(Lois and Clark sit down on the couch. Jimmy comes walking down the stairs.)

Jimmy:

Sorry I took so long.

(Jimmy gives his wife a kiss)

Clark:

It's okay, Jimmy. We just got here.

Jimmy:

Can I get anyone anything to drink?

Lori:

I'll have some white wine.

Lois:

So will I.

Jimmy:

Clark?

Clark:

I'll have a club soda with lemon.

Jimmy:

Coming right up.

(Jimmy walks over to the bar to fix the drinks. Lori is talking to her guests.)

Lois:

How are things at work?

Lori:

Pretty hectic but when you have a certain deadline for promotions, it can be very stressful.

Lois:

I guess that's the way it is when you're the president of large firm.

Lori:

It's not easy but someone has to do the dirty work.

(Jimmy returns with the drinks)

Jimmy:

Here you are, ladies…your wine and here's your club soda with a twist of lemon, Clark.

Clark:

Thanks, Jimmy.

(the phone rings and the maid answers it)

Miranda:

Thompson residence?

Sasha:

May I speak with Lori Olsen? It's very important.

Miranda:

Can this wait? She's busy at the moment.

Lori:

Who is it, Miranda?

Miranda:

May I ask who's speaking?

Sasha:

I'm an old high school friend of Lori's.

Miranda:

Hold on.

(Miranda puts her hand over the receiver)

Miranda:

It's an old high school friend of yours.

Lori:

I'll take it in the den. Excuse me a minute.

(Lori walks over to the den)

Lori:

Lori Olsen?

Sasha:

Listen, Lori, if I were you, I'd watch your back because if you don't leave Metropolis in the next 48 hours, everyone, including Superman will be destroyed.

Lori:

Who are you? Why are you calling me?

Sasha:

Let's just say it's payback time.

Lori:

How dare you threaten me this way?

(Lori walks out of the den)

Clark:

What happened, Lori? It looks like you have seen a ghost!

Lori:

I have 48 hours to leave Metropolis.

(Lois, Clark and Jimmy look surprised)

At the Metropolis jail…Sasha's car drives up to the gate.

Guard:

Good evening, ma'am. Can I help you?

Sasha:

Yes, I think you can. My name is Dr. Fisher and I'm here to see Melanie Thompson.

Guard:

At this time?

Sasha:

I just flew in from New York to see my patient and it's important that I finish her psychiatric evaluation.

Guard:

Very well. Let me call the front gate to let them know you're coming in.

(The guard calls the front gate and let's Sasha drive by)

(Sasha's car pulls up to the front gate and the main guard let's her in. Sasha walks up to Melanie's cell.)

Guard # 3: You have a visitor, Thompson. You've got half an hour.

Sasha:

Thank you very much.

(Sasha walks into Melanie's cell with the formula in her purse)

Melanie:

It's about time you showed up. Did you bring it?

Sasha:

It's in my purse.

Melanie:

Well, what are you waiting for? Give it to me!

Sasha:

Be careful.

Melanie:

I know what the hell I'm doing. All I have to do is spray this chemical onto the bars and…

(the chemical melts the bars)

Melanie:

Presto! Instant freedom!

Sasha:

Let's get out of here. How are we gonna get out of there with all those prison guards?

Melanie:

Just leave everything to me.

(Melanie uses the chemical spray to melt the bars. Melanie and Sasha climb out the window into the courtyard and run towards the stone wall)

Guard # 4:

Stop!

(the guard fires a shot from his gun and misses. Melanie sprays the chemical onto the wall and walks through it. The chemical automatically closes the hole.)

Sasha:

Quick, this way!

(they both run towards Sasha's car and make a getaway)

The next day at the Daily Planet…

Perry:

Lois! Clark! Get in my office right away!

(Lois & Clark head towards Perry's office)

Lois:

You wanted to see us, Chief?

Perry:

Yes, I did. There's been a breakout at the Metropolis jail. Go down there and find out who escaped.

Clark:

Got it, Chief.

Lois:

Come on, Clark. Let's go.

Jimmy:

Chief, something terrible happened to Lori last night.

Perry:

Calm down, Jimmy. Tell me exactly what happened?

Jimmy:

Lori got this threatening phone call telling her that if she doesn't leave Metropolis, her company will cost thousands of lives.

Perry:

Do you know who might have done this?

Jimmy:

It could be Lori's mother but she's behind bars. I'm not really sure who would pose such a threat to Lori.

At the Metropolis jail…Lois & Clark search for clues.

Clark:

Is there anything you can tell us about the escapee?

Guard # 3: Some lady came here around midnight last night and claimed she was Mrs. Thompson's psychiatrist.

Lois:

Then what happened?

Guard # 3:

Half an hour later when I came to check up on her, the cell was empty.

Clark:

Was there anything left behind?

Guard # 3:

Not really but when we searched around for any clues, there was this awful smell.

Lois:

Is there anything more you can tell us?

Guard # 3:

All I know is that the escapee left without a trace.

(Clark uses his super-vision to notice a drop of Sasha's chemical spray on the floor, close to the melted bars)

Clark:

I think I found something.

Lois:

What is it?

Clark:

It's drops of a chemical spray.

Lois:

How could you have seen that? It's microscopic.

Clark:

It was very easy to see. My glasses can see from a far distance.

Lois:

How can a spray melt steel bars?

Clark:

I don't know yet but it could be a clue as to how Melanie escaped.

Lois:

What clue? Everything's dissolved and dried out.

Clark:

Go notify Dr. Hamilton and tell him what we found. He might have a way to collect this sample. It could be a lead.

Lois:

Aren't you coming?

Clark:

I'll look around here and see if I can find any other clues.

(Lois walks out of the cell and calls Dr. Hamilton at his lab)

(the phone rings)

Dr. Hamilton:

Dr. Hamilton?

Lois:

Hi, Dr. Hamilton, it's Lois Lane.

Dr. Hamilton: What can I do for you?

Lois:

I need you to come to the Metropolis jail and collect a sample for me.

Dr. Hamilton:

What kind of sample?

Lois:

Clark found chemical drops from a spray that was used for an escape. It's the only clue we have so far and we could really use your help.

Dr. Hamilton:

I'm on my way.

(At the Metropolis jail, Dr. Hamilton is using one of his devices to suck up the remainder of the chemical spray)

Clark:

Can you tell us what it is, Dr. Hamilton?

Dr. Hamilton:

I'm not quite sure what it is but I'm gonna take this sample back to my lab and analyze it. I'll call you as soon the tests are done.

Lois:

Thank you, Doctor.

In Lois's jeep…

Lois:

Should we tell Lori about this?

Clark:

I wouldn't right away because we don't what Melanie's next move is. If Lori gets another threatening phone call, then we'll take action.

At the Daily Planet…Lois is typing her story on her computer

(Dr. Hamilton is calling Lois about the lab results)

Lois:

Lois Lane?

Dr. Hamilton:

It's Dr. Hamilton calling. I have the results from the sample I collected yesterday.

Lois:

Great.

Dr. Hamilton:

Can you get down here?

Lois:

Clark and I are on our way.

At Dr. Hamilton's lab…Lois and Clark are looking at the test results.

Clark:

Is there any way you can re-create this formula?

Dr. Hamilton:

I'm not sure, Mr. Kent. These chemicals are highly explosive. If I make the slightest mistake, everything could explode.

Lois:

I don't know if we should, Clark.

Clark:

We have to try, Lois. Metropolis is at stake and we have to find a solution, fast.

Lois:

Alright. I'll go back to the prison and see if there's any identification on Ms. psychiatrist.

Clark:

Call me at the Planet if anything comes up.

Lois:

I will.

At Sasha's lab…

Melanie:

My plan is working perfectly. There is no stopping me now!

Sasha:

Don't you think you're going a little overboard, Melanie? Do you really want to kill your own flesh and blood?

Melanie:

Having Lori was a big mistake and she is going to pay for sending me to prison. If I don't get what I want, everyone dies.

Sasha:

I don't think we should continue this any further. How could you do something like this?

Melanie:

What are you? A cop?

Sasha:

I just think this is a really bad idea.

Melanie:

That's where you're wrong. I've been waiting for many months to destroy my daughter's company and nothing is gonna stop me from ruining a child that put my life through hell.

At the Metropolis jail…

Detective Johnson:

Ms. Lane? Can I speak to you for a minute?

Lois:

Sure, Detective.

Detective Johnson:

We used the police records to find out who Mrs. Thompson's psychiatrist is but somehow it's incorrect.

Lois:

What do you mean?

Detective Johnson:

The woman we've identified is Sasha Carmicheal. She's a chemist, doing medical research for St-Mary's hospital.

Lois:

Is there any historical connection with Ms. Carmicheal and Mrs. Thompson?

Detective Johnson:

It says here that they both worked together as lab partners at Metropolis General hospital.

Lois:

Thanks for everything, detective. I'll see what I can come up with.

At Thompson Technologies…

(Lori's telephone rings)

Lori:

Yes, Stephanie?

Stephanie's voice:

Your mother is here to see you.

Lori:

Do not send her in. Call security right away!

(Melanie walks in)

Melanie:

I don't think so, Lori. We're going on a little trip.

Lori:

You can't do this to me!

Melanie:

And who is going to save you, now that you're being held prisoner?

Lori:

Metropolis will never surrender to you, never!

At the Daily Planet…

(Lois receives a call from Lori)

Lois:

Hello?

Lori:

Hi, Aunt Lois. It's me, Lori.

Lois:

Where have you been? Clark and I have been looking you all day!

Lori:

It's okay. I'm fine.

Lois:

Where are you?

Lori:

I can't say but I need you to do a big favor for me.

Lois:

Is something wrong?

Lori:

Yes, something is terribly wrong and only you can help me.

Lois:

Where are you?

(Lori hangs up the phone)

At the Daily Planet…

Clark:

Who was that on the phone?

Lois:

That was Lori. Something's happened to her.

Clark:

We have to find Jimmy.

At Sasha's lab…Melanie walks in with Lori.

Melanie:

Now that I have you here as a prisoner, my assistant will make sure you and Superman are destroyed.

Lori:

What are you gonna do to me?

Melanie:

Anything my little heart desires. Besides, I have what I want.

Lori:

And that is…?

Melanie:

Revenge! All you have to do sit still and shut up.

Sasha:

Let's just set the bomb and get out of here.

Melanie:

Why leave Lori to do the dirty work? I have someone else in mind.

Lori:

You are one sick excuse for a human being. Why would you want to destroy something that I have worked many years on?

Melanie:

Because, my vicious child, your conception was a mistake and I intend to see you destroyed!!!
