Superman entered the observatory with a whoosh that sent papers flying and watched the scientist peer into the telescope. "You wanted to see me, Professor Daitch?" he asked quietly.

The scientist turned around, startled. "Superman?" he gasped.

"Mind if I take a look?" Superman asked, taking a tentative step towards the large telescope.

Daitch stepped aside and gestured towards the device. "I thought you had enhanced visual abilities?" he questioned, puzzled as to why *Superman* needed to use a telescope.

"I do," Superman replied, "but even I have my limits." He walked over to the telescope and peered into the eyepiece.

Superman stared into it for a moment and then turned to the scientist. "Are you sure that it's an asteroid?" he asked, a concerned look on his face. "It looks more like a large splotch of bird guano to me."

"But Superman, there *is* an asteroid," the scientist insisted.

"Yes, there is," Superman agreed quickly. "But from the location on the telescope, it will probably miss the Earth by several million miles… what you are seeing, sir, is bird guano." He smiled at the professor. "I'll go clean the lens for you — it'll only take a second."

Superman flew quickly out the window and up to the lens. Sure enough, he had been right. He pulled a handkerchief out of one of the pockets his mother had sewn in the cape and carefully cleaned the lens, using superspit when necessary to get rid of the mess.

A few seconds later, he flew back into the observatory. "Is that better, Professor?" he enquired.

Professor Daitch looked in the telescope and breathed a sigh of relief. "Thank you, Superman," he said gratefully. "I had better go call a press conference before the world starts to panic over a spot on my telescope!"

"My pleasure, Professor." Superman flew out the window and home to his apartment, thankful that it had been a false alarm.
