Clark held Lois in his arms as they descended toward his Clinton Avenue apartment. He couldn't wipe the silly grin off his face. It had been a magical wedding, literally. After suffering through so much to be together, they were finally now man and wife.
They kissed as they crossed the threshold and both seemed reluctant to break, but Lois did have to breathe sometime. Clark set Lois on her feet and his grin couldn't help but break out again.
"Well, that was an incredible ceremony, wouldn't you say, Mrs. Kent?"
Lois' answering smile lit up Clark's world. "A decidedly better outcome than our earlier attempts, husband of mine."
Clark gave Lois a wink. "I guess we should pack, for our honeymoon in Hawaii."
Lois gave Clark a little pat on the cheek. "Not just yet." She ran into the other room.
Clark stared after her, bewildered, but soon Lois reappeared dressed only in a lacy black teddy. A garment that left nothing to the imagination, yet emphasized all the proper curves. Clark felt flush as his body automatically reacted to the wondrous sight of his beautiful wife so scantily clad.
Lois affected a coy look. "There's something I want to test out first."
Clark was a little slow on the uptake since he was having trouble concentrating — on her words. "Huh, er, what would that be?"
"You." She reached out and grabbed his shirt front and led him into the bedroom.

A short time later the newlywed couple lay back in the bed, both staring at the ceiling. The top sheet was casually draped across their middles.
"So that was it, huh." Clark spoke toward the ceiling.
Lois didn't look at him. "Yeah, I guess it was."
Clark wasn't sure what he should say. "So, so how was it for you?"
"I've had better."
"I suppose. I thought it would be better somehow. More exciting in some way."
"Yeah, well, I would have thought that Superman would have had more staying power. Do you have to do everything at super speed?"
"Sorry about that. I just… reacted, that's all."
The couple lay there in silence for several minutes. Neither wanted to break the uneasy respite in the conversation. Lois finally couldn't keep quiet any longer. She sighed and turned to Clark.
"Do you think we made a mistake?"
Clark took several moments before answering. "I don't know, maybe."
Lois got up and very deliberately stripped off the lacy lingerie and put her slacks and top back on. She rummaged around until she found her hand bag. Clark watched her with a sad look on his face, but he made no move to stop her. At the bedroom door, she turned.
"I guess we were just meant to be best friends after all."
Clark shrugged. "I guess so. Goodbye, Lois."
"Goodbye, Clark." She turned and in a moment she was gone.
