Summary: A short story based on the song "Fly" by Celine Dion.

Based on the song "Fly" by Celine Dion

***

It was another lonely night in Metropolis for Lois Lane. Her fiancee, Clark was still in New Krypton fighting Lord Nor. Lois always looked for Clark's star that he had shown her the night before he left. She stood at the window, watching his star. The stereo was on, and the song "Fly" had begun to play. Lois recognized the song instantly; it had played that night she heard Clark's voice in the night. As Celine Dion started singing the song, Lois began to listen closely.

***

Fly, fly, little wing,

Fly beyond imagining.

The softest cloud, the whitest dove,

Upon the wind of heaven's love.

***

The song brought tears to Lois's eyes. It described her feelings exactly. She gazed out the window again and stared at Clark's star. Tears ran down Lois's face as the next phrases of the song played.

***

Past the planets and the stars

Leave this lonely world of ours

Escape the sorrow and the pain

And fly again.

***

Clark flew down to earth. He was so glad that Zara and Ching had agreed to rule together so that he could return to Lois. He began to wonder what Lois was doing at that moment.

***

Lois was still at the window watching the stars. Some clouds began to come and cover up some of them. She stepped away from the window for a second to turn up the stereo. She then stepped back to the window and gazed out it again as the song continued to play.

***

Fly, fly, precious one,

Your endless journey has begun.

Take your gentle happiness

Far too beautiful for this

Cross over to the other shore

There is peace forevermore

But hold this memory bittersweet

Until we meet.

***

Lois finally left the window and lied down on the couch. She really missed Clark. She wished he didn't have to leave her. They were supposed to get married, and Zara and Ching had just come and taken him away from her. She prayed that Clark be able to come back to her soon. She rolled over so that she was facing the back of the sofa, and slowly began crying. And the chorus of the song brought on even more tears.

***

Fly, fly, do not fear

Don't waste a breath, don't shed a tear.

Your heart is pure, your soul is free

Be on your way, don't wait for me.

***

Clark came down from above and stopped in front of Lois's window. Her back was to him, and the stereo had been turned up. Clark was about to say something to her, but then he heard the next lines of the song Lois was listening to.

***

Above the universe you'll climb

On beyond the hands of time.

The moon will rise, the sun will set

But I won't forget.

***

Clark knew that song. He remembered hearing it when he had sent the telepathic message to Lois. He could also hear her quiet sobs over on the couch. Clark came close to crying himself when he realized the pain Lois had been through. He quietly stepped into Lois's apartment and walked over to her. She was still crying and her body was trembling with each sob. Clark, unable to stand it any longer, reached down and stroked her hair. Lois felt it and slowly turned around. When she saw Clark standing there, she began crying again, but in happiness. Clark knelt down and gave her a hug and a gentle kiss. Lois just squeezed him even tighter. When they broke away they just stared into each other's eyes. Clark then slowly picked Lois up in his arms and walked toward the bedroom. As Clark slowly shut the door, the last lines of the song played.

***

Fly, fly, little wing

Fly where only angels sing

Fly away, the time is right.

Go now…find the light.

THE END

(but for Lois and Clark, it's the beginning…)

Well, whadja think? I've just always liked this song, and it reminded me of how Lois felt when Clark left for New Krypton. So, I wrote a fanfic! You know all the disclaimer mumbo-jumbo, so I won't go into that. I hope you didn't expect it to be first rate fanfic, since it was my first one! Feel free to send me comments. Good or bad, I can take 'em! A little criticism never hurt!
