Summary: A short vignette about a New Year's Eve surprise, six years into the lives of Lois & Clark.

***

It was December 31st, New Year's Eve, and Clark was looking around the crowded room, trying desperately to find his wife. He finally spotted her. She was leaning against a wall and holding her drink up to her forehead, trying to cool off.

"I *finally* found you. Where've you been hiding?" he asked.

"Mingling mostly. Why'd you want to find me, Clarkie?" she asked.

"Well, Mason, I just wanted to find her … and I figured since you're best friends, you might know where Lois is," he answered.

"Well I don't know, but I think I saw her hiding in the kitchen."

"Okay — and thanks."

"Sure thing, Clark."

As Clark approached the kitchen, he felt somone put their hands over his eyes so he couldn't see (although he *could've* used his x-ray vision.)

"Guess who?"

"Um … let's see, Julie? Marci? Um..oh I know — it's Gigi, right?"

"Who are Julie, Marci and Gigi?" Lois demanded to know as she uncovered his eyes.

"Gotcha!"

"Oh, you! You *never* let me surprise you with *anything* Clark. It's not fair!"

"What are you talking about Lois?? You surprise me all the time. Finding you in my bed's all the surprise I need."

"Oh that's so sweet — do you really mean it?"

"Of course I do."

"Well, I have another surprise for you!"

"What is it?"

"Wellll, if you're really good until we get home..maybe I'll tell you."

"Okay, seeing how we're leaving right after midnight, I can wait till then."

"Good, now let's find Mason and re-join the party."

"Okay. After you, Mrs. Kent."

"Why, thank you, Mr. Kent."

They went and re-joined the party.

"3 — 2 — 1 — HAPPY NEW YEAR!!!"

"Okay, Lois, let's go."

"Alrighty. You get the jeep, and I'll get our coats."

"Okay. Meet you out front."

A few minutes later, they were home. As they went inside, Lois told Clark to sit on the couch and to not move until she got back.

"Okay, but where are you going?"

"I'm not telling you. That's part of the surprise."

"Oh, okay. Hurry back."

"I will."

When she came back a little while later, she noticed he wasn't on the couch anymore. "Where did he go?? I told him not to move! Damn him — I had this whole evening out perfectly — I suppose I should've planned around something like this. Lord knows we've been together for almost six years. I can't believe he left."

"Oh, no, he didn't. He's right here."

"Why' … oh my! Nevermind … I see why you left!"

He was standing right right behind her, wearing *nothing* but a towel. He'd just come from a *quick* shower. Well, needless to say, she showed him, or rather *told* him what her surprise was … she was pregnant. And they didn't get *any* sleep that night.
