Summary: The stress is getting to Lois as she and Clark embark on a vacation — and none too soon!

Metropolis, New Troy is like many towns in America. It has tall buildings, traffic, taxis, a subway system, TV stations, several newspapers, one of which is the world famous 'Daily Planet.' Metropolis is unlike most other American towns because it has a special guardian angel. This man is an alien from the planet Krypton who fights to keep the city safe. He sets an example of truth and justice for the rest of the city. Unfortunately, this superhero also has a secret identity, which can put him in some sticky situations. This is a story of one such situation.

Clark Kent, better known as Superman, guardian angel of Metropolis, was also a hot shot reporter for the 'Daily Planet.' He and his wife, Lois Lane, were regarded by their peers as the 'best team in town.' This was true in more than one sense. They worked together brilliantly, and were madly in love with eachother.

Lane and Kent treasured any time they could get to themselves without work or Superman interfering with their privacy. That time was far between because both were terrible workaholics, and, to make things worse, whenever they were alone it was inevitable that Clark would hear a cry for Superman.

One day, Lois was finishing an expose on corruption in Metropolis' City Council, and Clark watched her from his desk. He had already finished his story, and was content watching his wife work. He loved the way her fingers glided across the keyboard, so smoothly and gracefully, the way she pulled the pencil from behind her ear and chewed the eraser — . He let his mind wander so far that he didn't notice Lois getting up from her desk and stepping up behind him. She covered his eyes with her hands, and said, "Guess who?"

"Um, I don't know. Have I met you somewhere before?"

"Take a wild guess."

"Hi honey, I didn'' hear you coming. Are you ready to get going? I'm done with my story, are you done with yours? I've been waiting for this weekend off for months. I have it all planned," said Clark.

Lois said, "Yeah, I'm ready. Let's go! Are you ever going to tell me where we're going this weekend?"

"If I told you, then it wouldn't be a surprise," said Clark.

Lois lightly slapped Clark and said, "Come on, let's go home so I can get ready to go. Finally, we're going to get some time alone with no work, Superman, or anything. So where are we going?"

As they walked to the elevator, Clark said, "Why can't you give it up? You're going to know where we're going in less than an hour."

Lois hated to be left in the dark, but she knew Clark would never spill his secret, unless she tortured him. Since they were still in a public place, she could not torture him in the way that would have the most effect on him.

They arrived at their brownstone after a quiet ride home. Lois sulked the whole way home because she could not make Clark spill his secret. Clark sat in silence with a smirk on his face. He loved teasing his wife, and he knew she would love the surprise he had planned for her.

When they entered their house, Lois jumped on Clark and kissed him passionately, and whispered in his ear, "Clarkie, come on, tell me where we're going. Come on."

Clark pushed her away and said, "Now Lois, do you really think I am stupid enough to fall for that trick? Let me just grab our bags, then we'll almost be ready to go."

Clark grabbed his suitcase and the one he packed for Lois. Lois screamed, "We're going somewhere for a whole weekend, and that is all the stuff I'm taking?" She looked at the one small bag quizzically. "I don't think so."

"Lois, where we're going, we won't need much clothing."

"Hmmm, I think I get it. Okay, don't keep me in suspense any longer, let's go."

Clark said, "First things first," and wrapped a blindfold around his wife's eyes, and took off. He ignored her attempts of protest.

A few minutes later, Clark landed on a secluded beach in Florida. He set Lois down and pulled off his blindfold. Lois exclaimed, "Wow Clark, it's beautiful! Look at how crystal clear the water is, and how white the sand is! Where are we? Where are we staying?"

Clark said, "We're in Florida, and do you see that little cabin over there?"

Lois nodded.

"We're staying there."

Superman changed back into Clark, and he grabbed Lois' hand and led her to the cabin. They walked in, and Lois asked, "Does anyone live here? How did you get this cabin?"

"No, Lois, this cabin has been abandoned for a few years, and I found the owners and rented it from them for the weekend. They said not many people know about it because it is in such a secluded spot. We're going to be alone without any interruptions for the whole weekend."

Lois said, "Clark, this is wonderful! It is beautiful. Look at the view from the window. Look at the ocean! It is so romantic!"

Lois suddenly realized she was starving. She had not had anything to eat since the previous night. Her stomach growled loudly. Clark said, "Let's see if there's anything we can eat in the kitchen."

They walked into the kitchen and opened all the cabinets, and found nothing to eat. They decided to fly to nearby Ft. Lauderdale and find a nice restaurant.

An hour later, the couple was sitting in the corner of a seafood restaurant, enjoying a quiet dinner. All of a sudden, Clark heard a cry for help. Two gangs were fighting in a nearby alley. They were going to kill each other. Lois told Clark to go, so he went into the bathroom, changed, and flew out the window.

A few minutes after Clark left, Superman walked out of the bathroom of the restaurant and sat in Clark's chair. He leaned over and kissed Lois. Everyone in the restaurant stared at them. Noone could believe their eyes. Their collective jaws dropped. Not only was Superman in their restaurant, but he was kissing a woman, the woman who was just here with another man.

Lois realized Clark was dressed as Superman and blushed a bright crimson. She screamed loudly, but Clark just kept kissing her.

The story on all the major newspapers and TV shows was that Superman had a girlfriend. It was Randy Goode all over again, but this time they had proof and witnesses.

Lois awoke with a start. She saw Clark sleeping next to her. He was wearing his 'suit' and Lois assumed he was exhaused from a super rescue. She was glad it was just a bad dream.

Clark awoke with a start and asked, "Lois, are you okay? Did you have a bad dream?"

Lois said, "Don't worry honey; I just had a bad dream; it's fine. Go back to sleep."

Clark said, "You too, we have a big weekend coming up."

THE END

… (Maybe … Maybe not, the way Lois and Clark's nightmares come true)
