Lonesome Tonight?

By Nina (snoopy@login.dknet.dk)

Summary: Intergang holds Clark's cousin Sam hostage, along with Jimmy, in an attempt to keep Superman from foiling a jewel heist. A sequel to the fanfic "Here's Looking at You, Lois and Clark."

This fanfic is a sequel to my first fanfic "Here's Looking at You, Lois and Clark". I got so much response to that one, that I wanted to give it a second go. I hope you'll all like it.

***

It was autumn. Most leaves had fallen off the trees, and the ones still on had the most beautiful colors. The Daily Planet was buzzing with activity. The English Crown Jewels were in Metropolis and there were rumors that Intergang was planning to steal them, which would not make America look that good.

Lois was reading something Jimmy had found for her on the computer. Jimmy was standing beside her, leaning over the desk, resting on his arms. When Lois turned her head to write something on her note pad, she saw a silver heart in a silver chain around Jimmy's neck.

"That looks like Sam's," she said playing with it with her fingers.

"It is." he said and closed his hand around it.

"You sure miss her, don't you?" Lois asked.

"Yeah. She's been so busy lately that I haven't heard from her in a long time."

"I think I can imagine what you're going through." Clark came up to them. "I know how I would feel if it were Lois and I who were separated." He put a hand on Lois' shoulder and she put her hand on top of his. Jimmy flopped into a chair.

"Sometimes I'm angry with her for leaving me, but I always end up being angry with myself for being angry at her." Jimmy said and smiled half a smile.

"Well, you can always comfort yourself, that she is out fulfilling her dream."

"I know, C.K. and that is what I'm hanging on to." Jimmy ran his fingers through his hair and got up. Suddenly Sam's smiling face appeared behind Jimmy, but before Clark could do anything she put her finger on her lips. Jimmy felt a pair of hands on his shoulders and a soft voice whispered in his ear: "Are you lonesome tonight, Jimmy?" Jimmy's jaw dropped open. The voice came closer to his ear. "Do you miss me tonight?" Jimmy spun around.

"SAM!" He grasped Sam, spun her around with her feet off the ground. When he put her down he kissed her lovingly. Still holding her hands he stepped back and looked at her, drew her a bit closer. Running his fingers through her hair and looked deep into her eyes.

"I can't believe you're back." He said under his breath. Sam put her arms around his neck and Jimmy buried his face in her hair.

"It feels so good to be in your arms again." Sam said.

"Hey, how about a hug for your favorite cousin?" Clark said.

"Hi Cos." Sam let go of Jimmy and hugged Clark. "Don't squeeze me too hard." she whispered. Clark smiled and hugged her a bit tighter. Then suddenly, without letting go of her, he threw her up in the air like a little girl, making sure that he didn't throw her too high. When he put her down again Lois gave her "soon-to-be- cousin" a hug.

"You look wonderful, Sam." she said smiling.

"And you look dashing." Sam replied laughing.

"Holy shades of Elvis, how did you get so tanned Sammy?" asked Perry, who had just reached them.

"After a long time in a studio in L.A. We went to play some gigs, and guess where? I'll give you a hint. The way she moves her hips," Sam sang. "Out to her finger tips, I feel like heaven bound."

"I wanna' hold her tight all through the night," Perry sang.

"But all she wants to do is dance!" They finished off together.

"What was that?" Jimmy asked smiling.

"Rock a Hula baby, by Elvis Presley." Sam said.

"You where in Hawaii?" Clark exclaimed.

"YEP!" Sam was about to tell more, but just at that moment Lois' phone rang.

"Lois Lane. Yes… aha… okay, Clark and I'll be right there." Click "Clark that was Bigmouth Bobby. He knows something about Intergang, and if we treat him to lunch he'll tell us."

"Great!"

"Jimmy, take the rest of the day off and treat your girlfriend to some lunch."

"You mean that, chief?!"

"Yeah, but you better get out of her before I change my mind."

"OK, bye."

"See you at the apartment, Clark." Sam said. Jimmy grasped Sam's hand and his coat. They got into an empty elevator. Jimmy took her face in his hands and kissed her as the doors closed. Perry saw it and laughed.

"I remember when I used to kiss like that." He turned to Lois and Clark who where doing the exact same thing as Jimmy and Sam had been doing just a second ago. "Stop that you two and get out of here!" Lois and Clark left laughing.

***

"I didn't know you had a car!" Sam exclaimed.

"Well, actually it's not mine. One of my friends lent it to me. Do you like it?"

"Are you kidding? I love it!" Jimmy smiled and held the car door open so Sam could get in.

"Where do you wanna' go have lunch?" he asked while he got in.

"I don't care as long as I'm with you." Jimmy blushed a little bit, but realized how much he had missed her openness and replied that he knew a great Mexican Restaurant.

"Great, I love tacos." Sam said.

***

When their meal had arrived Jimmy asked Sam what it was like to be a rock star, but to his surprise she replied: "I don't want to talk about that now. Now, let me hear what you've been doing while I was in Hawaii." And soon it was like they had never been apart.

***

Meanwhile Lois was having trouble with Bobby Bigmouth's eating habits.

"How can you eat that?!?"

"I like it."

"Do you know what's in it?"

"No, and don't tell me, I don't wanna' ruin my appetite."

"Well, I wish you would … "

"Why did you call us?" Clark interrupted. "You said you knew something about Intergang and the rumors about them stealing the English Crown Jewels?"

"All right. They ARE gonna' steal them!"

"Do you know when?" Lois asked.

"Yes, but that's gonna' cost you dessert." Lois gave him her famous *look*, while Clark ordered dessert.

"Now you've got your dessert, now tell us when they are gonna' steal them." Lois demanded.

"You're so cute when you're mad."

"TELL ME!"

"OK, OK. Three days from now, that's all I know."

"Let's go Clark."

***

After lunch Jimmy and Sam went for a walk in the park.

"It feels so great to be back. I missed you so much, it was horrible."

"Then why did you leave me?"

"Jimmy…"

"I'm sorry, Sam, that wasn't fair. It's just …I missed you." "Oh Jimmy!" Sam put her arms around his neck and he hugged her. After a while he let go of her. "Can we go home, Jimmy? I'm really tired, jet lag you know."

"Sure, let's go." He took her hand and they left.

In Jimmy's car on the way to Clark's apartment Sam almost fell asleep.

"Sam?" he gently whispered.

"I'm awake." she said, but when she stood up she started to fall. Catching her, Jimmy put her over his shoulder and carried her up the stairs. At the door he put her down and placed her so she was leaning up the wall.

"Do you think you can stand by yourself?" he asked. Sam nodded. "OK." Jimmy got the key out from under the doormat unlocked and opened the door. He lifted the Sleeping Beauty up in his arms, carried her in and sat down in the couch, still with Sam in his arms.

When Clark got home he found Jimmy and Sam both asleep. He smiled. Jimmy must have felt his presence because he opened his eyes.

"I'll take her," Clark said, lifted Sam up carried her into his bedroom and put her down on his bed. When he came back in to the living room Jimmy was rubbing his eyes.

"Do you wanna' stay for dinner?" Clark asked.

"Na, I better get home. An old friend is dropping by. Say bye to Sam from me."

"Sure."

"By the way, Clark," Jimmy said turning in the door. "How did it go with Bobby Bigmouth?"

"Great. Lois and I ran the article soon enough for it to get in tomorrow's paper."

"That's great. See ya."

"Bye, Jimmy."

Not long after the door had closed behind Jimmy, Sam came into the living room, with a brush in her hands.

"Where's Jimmy?" she asked.

"He left. An old friend was dropping by. He told me to say goodbye."

"Okay." She started to brush her hair, but it wasn't going well being as tired as she was.

"Here, let me do that." Clark said and took the brush.

"Thanks," Sam replied and sat down on the floor in front of him. Clark started to brush her hair. "How are the wedding-plans coming?" She asked after a little pause.

"Slowly," Clark answered and started to plait her hair into two plaits. "You wouldn't believe howe much there is to do. Sam… Sam?…" Sam didn't answer. She had fallen asleep. Clark lifted her up in his arms and carried her in to the bedroom again and put her down on the bed.

"Goodnight Sam." he whispered.

***

Next morning.

"Good morning, cos."

"'Morning, Sam. Slept well?"

"The best. Thanks for giving me the bed."

"You're welcome. What are you going to do today?"

"Relax!"

"Well I better get to work."

"Okay."

"By the way, Sam," Clark said as his eyes fall on the silver ring on her right pinky. "Why are you still wearing my ring?"

"Two reasons," Sam said playing with it." number one I can't it off and the second one: I don't want to take it off. I like it, it's like it's become a part of me." Clark smiled and kissed her on the forehead.

"Bye, Sam."

"Bye, Clark"

At Intergang's head quarters.

"WHAT IS THIS?!" Mrs. Church demanded to know.

"It's the Daily Planet."

"I know it's the Daily planet. I mean this article that says that Intergang is going to steal the English Crown Jewels. You said nobody knew!"

"I.."

"I'm not changing my plans. I want those jewels."

"Well, now Superman is on the watch, so.."

"So why don't we take one of his friends hostage."

"Lois Lane?"

"No..I want Clark Kent."

***

Later that night the phone rang.

"Clark Kent's residence."

"Hi Sam, it's Clark. I'm gonna' be working late tonight, do you think you can manage?"

"Sure, don't worry, I asked Jimmy over."

"OK. How's my suit coming?"

"Great. I'm almost done mending the hole."

"Thanks for fixing it, Sam. I could have done it myself you know."

"No problem. I'm glad to do it for you."

"Bye."

"Bye, Clark." Sam hung up the phone and went back to the suit. Sam heard something at the door, but before she could get up it flung open and in came a couple of men. She rose.

"Who is this?" one of them asked pointing at Sam.

"I don't know, Bill." another of them answered.

"FIND HIM!" Bill said and the men stared to look for somebody.

"What's your name gorgeous?" Bill asked.

"Betty Boop." Sam said

"Don't get cheeky. What's your name?" One of the men came up to them.

"He is not here. Hey, that's Sam Kent. She is the singer in a band my girlfriend loves."

"Sam Kent." Bill said looking at her. "Sister or cousin?"

"Neither. Grandma." Sam snapped back.

"I'm warning you, gorgeous. I'm not a very patient person."

"What are you doing here?" "You see, we read the Daily Planet and we don't like it when two nosey reporters tell the world what we are going to do. It's not that we're afraid of the police, we ain't, but Superman is not fun to have hanging around… Hey! What's this?" Bill picked up the costume Sam had been mending for Clark.

"Superman asked me to fix it." Sam replied.

"You're good friends with Superman?"

"Yeah." Sam said without thinking.

"That's great 'cause you see, we were actually going to take Clark Kent hostage so that Superman wouldn't annoy us, but since Clark is not here and you're good friends with Superman we might as well take you!" he grabbed Sam's wrist. Sam made a sudden move that sent him to the floor, and she made for the door, but one of the men was blocking it. One of the other men put his arms around her from the back. Sam bent down, pulled his leg away and she was free. A man made a dive for her but she ducked and he knocked a table and lamp over. Suddenly something hit her on the side of the head and threw her to the floor. She looked up and saw Bill throw the dinner table aside in order to get to her. As he was running over to her he pulled his gun and pointed it at her.

"Tie her!" he yelled, still pointing the gun at her. Sam's hands were tied behind her back.

"LET GO OF ME YOU BASTARDS!!!" Sam screamed.

"And gag her too." Sam was gagged and thrown over one of the men's shoulder.

The brakes on Jimmy's motorbike screamed when he made a quick stop. Out of Clark's apartment five men where coming and one of them was carrying something over his shoulder. SAM! The men got in the car. Jimmy followed them at a safe distance.

The car stopped in front of a empty building on Penny Lane. Jimmy snuck in, but unfortunately the men had disappeared. Suddenly he heard the big door shut behind him. He hurried over to it and tried the door knob, but it was locked. He peeked into a room and took a look around. Suddenly he felt a severe pain in the back of the head and everything turned black.

***

Jimmy could hear somebody humming and a hand gently caressing his hair. He opened his eyes and tried to focus.

"Hi baby." a familiar voice said.

"Sam?" he was lying on his back with his head in her lap.

"Yeah." Jimmy raised his hand to her cheek, Sam put hers on top of his and kept it there.

"What happened?" he asked and Sam told him.

"…and then a man opened the door to this room and I saw he was holding you by the collar and you were unconscious. He put you in here. How did you get here?"

"I saw them taking you away, and I followed on my motorbike."

"Oh yeah we were gonna' watch videos. Do you know where we are?"

"In that old abandoned building on Penny Lane."

"That's a long way from the Daily Planet."

***

"What are you laughing about, Lois?" Superman asked her on the way, by air, to his apartment.

"Here I am sitting, writing a scoop about Intergang, you come up to me and say, "Excuse me Lois, I have to go save Texas." Superman shook his head smiling. The smile disappeared the minute he stepped into his apartment. It look like a hurricane had hit it.

"What has happened here?" Lois asked.

"SAM!" In a split second Superman had searched the apartment.

"She's not here. I'll go find her!"

"Wait! Look." Lois pointed to a note stuck on the door. It said:

"SUPERMAN If you want to see your little friend again you better not do any thing, and I mean ANYTHING! You don't interfere when we rob the jewels and nothing happens, but if you interfere…" Clark said down on the couch.

"What am I going to do? I can't find her, she is probably kept in a lead lined room."

"I guess there is nothing you can do except wait."

"Why Sam?"

"I don't know, Clark, but look at the mess. It looks like she put up quite a fight."

"Yeah… JIMMY!" Clark jumped up and ran to the phone.

"What?"

"Jimmy was coming over to watch some video's with Sam, maybe he knows something." Clark's face turned sad. "Nobody is answering."

Once more he flopped down on the couch. Lois sat down beside him and put her arms around him.

"Don't worry, Clark, she is going to be all right. She is not the kind of girl that gives up or surrenders."

"I know, but … I'm used to you getting in trouble, as much as you can be just to seeing the woman you love get in to trouble, but Sam.." Lois could see how much he was hurting and she had an attack of bad conscience. If Clark was this bad when Sam was in this much trouble, then how did he feel when she was in worse trouble?

The worst part was that there was nothing to do.

"Clark don't you think you should fly around and look for her no matter what the chances of finding her are? At least it might make you feel better."

"You're probably right, Lois," he got up, spun around and jumped out the window.

"I hope you find her." Lois whispered as Superman's figure disappeared.

***

"What do you mean, Clark Kent isn't here?!"

"Calm down, Mrs. Church."

"Don't ever tell me to calm down. What do you have to say for yourself?"

"That we didn't get Clark Kent, but we got his sister or cousin and her boyfriend, and get this, she was mending one of Superman's suits."

"Well maybe you didn't screw up after all."

***

Suddenly the door was opened and a man pushed in a tray with food.

"You hungry?" Jimmy asked.

"What is it?"

"A stew of some kind, bread and two cokes."

"Give me the bread and a coke."

"Here you go, my lady."

"Thank you, kind sir." Sam said giggling. "How is you head?"

"Better." he said, not very convincingly.

"Take two kisses and call me in the morning." Sam said.

"Yes, doctor." Jimmy kissed Sam twice. "If I'm out of here in the morning." They where silent for a while.

"Do you know why we are here?" Jimmy broke the silence. Sam shook her head.

"No, wait a minute. They told me that they where looking for Clark, remember?" Jimmy nodded. "When they found the suit Superman had asked me to mend for him, but they didn't find Clark, they took me. They said they didn't want Superman to interfere in their business, and they didn't like reporters telling what they where going to do."

"I've got it!" Jimmy cried. "did you read that article Lois and Clark wrote about the crown jewels and Intergang?"

"Yes? Oh now I see, these men are from Intergang and taken me hostage is to prevent Superman from stopping them in stealing the jewels!"

"Right!"

"That's great! Now we know why we are here, and who has brought us!" Suddenly the joy faded. "But we still don't know how to get home." Sam said with a small lump in her throat. Jimmy put his arms around her and gently rocked her. "Jimmy, I'm scared."

"I know, Sammy, so am I."

***

At the crack of dawn Lois lifted her head from Clark's couch where she had fallen asleep. When she heard Superman fly in the window, she got up.

"I couldn't find her *or* Jimmy," he said as an answer to the question on her lips. He sat down in the couch. "I feel so helpless!" His fist landed on the coffee table and broke it in two, which just made him feel worse.

"Clark, I'll go home and you stay here, and we'll phone Perry at the Planet and tell him what has happened, that way there will be three places they can call, OK?" Clark nodded. Lois kissed him.

"Goodbye."

***

"I've got it!" Sam cried.

"What! What happened?" Jimmy asked waking up.

"You said that we were on Penny Lane, right?" Jimmy searched his memory sleepily.

"I think so."

"When you snuck in here did you see a phone?" Jimmy tried to look through his still blurred mind.

"Yes."

"YES!"

"What?!?"

"I've come up with a way to get us out of here."

"What is it?"

"I'll tell you later, but first," She got up and went over to the door and peeked through the keyhole. "The suckers!" she said Bugs Bunny-like.

"What!?!"

"Jimmy do you have a pen, pencil, screwdriver or something like that in your pocket?" Very confused Jimmy searched his pockets and found a pen. "Great." She got down flat on the floor and looked under the door. "Aha!" Jimmy was extremely confused. He had just been awakened, had a headache, and now seeing his girlfriend lying flat on the floor looking under the door wasn't helping at all.

"Sam what are you doing."

"Pass me the paper napkin, Jimmy. Thank you." Sam stuck the napkin under the door so just a little bit was visible. Then she got out to the keyhole, put the pen in and messed around in it and suddenly there was a rattle. Sam got down on the floor again and very slowly pulled the napkin back in WITH THE KEY ON IT. She showed it triumphantly to Jimmy. "Viola."

"How did you ever think of doing that?" Jimmy asked with amazement.

"If you had read the mystery books by Enid Blyton as a child you would have known too." She put the key in the keyhole and unlocked the door. "Let's go find that telephone."

They snuck out and soon found the phone, but beside it was a man.

"He is asleep." Sam said. "But he doesn't look like he is a very heavy sleeper."

"Now how do we get to that phone?" Jimmy said.

"Don't worry I have an idea. Do you know Clark's or Lois's phone number by heart?"

"I know Lois's, I think."

"OK, you dial her number, but don't say a word." Jimmy nodded and they crept in. Not making a sound, Jimmy took the receiver, gave it to Sam and dialed Lois's number. Sam took a deep breath. After a couple of rings: "Hello this is Lois Lane's apartment. I can't come to the phone right now but if you leave your name and number after the beep, I'll get back to you if I have time. BEEP!" Sam started very softly to hum a tune Jimmy didn't recognize. When she was done she hung up the phone and they snuck out of the room. When they where a safe distance away Jimmy asked: "What tune…" But he was interrupted.

"My, my, my, if it isn't the cheeky singer, Sam Kent and her boyfriend? No, no, her son of course. What is his name? Porky Pig, right?" Sam turned and looked into the end of Bill's gun. "How did you get out?"

"We turned in to little bugs and flew out of the keyhole!" Sam snapped back regretting it the minute she had said it, and even more when Bill's hand came through the air towards her ear. Fortunately she was able to avoid it. Bill grabbed her hand and this time his hand landed on her cheek.

"Why you…!" Jimmy almost jumped him, but he was held back.

"All right get them back!" Two other men took them by their arms and they where thrown back in where they started.

"Let's hope that Lois checks her answering machine and figures out my message." Sam said.

***

After waiting a long time for the phone to ring, Lois put the answering machine on and went in to take a shower. Suddenly she heard the phone ring.

"Oh no," she muttered. She turned off the water and grabbed a towel. The phone rang again. "Please keep ringing." Stepping out of the shower she slipped, when she tried to grab onto something she pulled a plant to the floor. She tried to grab it while she also tried not to fall. When she finally reached the phone it had stopped ringing, but the answering machine was blinking. Lois played the message. She recognized Sam's voice right away but couldn't figure out which tune she was humming. She picked up the phone and dialed Clark's number.

"Hi, Clark, it's Lois. Listen I got a message from Sam, But I…"He hung up!

"What was the message, Lois?" Lois spun around and saw Superman standing by the window.

"That was fast. Here, listen to this." Lois played the message. The third time Clark hummed along and in the middle of the fourth time he snapped his fingers.

"That's it!"

"What?"

"Penny Lane! That old Beatles song, You know, Penny Lane," Clark sang. "Is in my ears and in my eyes. There beneath the blue suburban skies I sit and meanwhile back."

"Oh my goodness, Sam and Jimmy are on Penny Lane." Lois said under her breath.

"I'll go get them!"

"No, wait! You wanna' catch these men, don't you?"

"Yes."

"Then barging in might not be the smartest way."

"You sound like you've got a plan."

"I have." Lois said and looked mysterious. "Listen, this is what you do…"

***

When Jimmy woke up, the first thing he saw was Sam's hair very close to his head, it smelled wonderful. She turned around. Jimmy kissed her on the nose, she stared to wake up and he kissed her on the lips. When the kissed ended she opened her eyes.

"Good morning."

"Good morning." she replied smiling. "What time is it?" Jimmy look a his wrist watch.

"About 9 o'clock."

Suddenly the door was open and a man with a tray with breakfast came in.

"Enjoy." He said sarcastically and left.

"Hungry?" Jimmy asked.

"A bit."

"Have a nice piece of toast."

"Thank you. I wonder if Lois got my message."

"What tune was that anyway?"

"Think Beatles, think street names, think…"Sam hummed again.

"Beatles, street name's. PENNY LANE!"

"That's right!"

"You're brilliant, Sam."

"I try." Sam leaned over and kissed him. Just then the door was flung open.

"All right you two lovebirds, break it up." Bill said. "This way please." Two men came over and forced them to go the way Bill was pointing. They where led into a room with two chairs. They were pushed down in them and tied up.

"If Superman shows up at the robbery, I will push this button and Hank here will - without delay - shoot the both of you." Bill said as Hank pulled out a gun from his pocket. "All right, let's go." They left.

***

At the museum hundreds of policemen where gathered, but suddenly a thick fog flew over them.

"Oh, no, it's …sleeping…gaasss…"

"This is working perfectly." Bill said beneath his gas mask. "All right, guys, grab the jewelry!" When he turned to them, none of them were wearing their masks, and they were all asleep. "What the…?" But suddenly somebody pulled his mask off. "You shouldn't have…done…that.." He pressed the button" …now…your… friends…will die!"

***

At Penny Lane.

"Jimmy, tell me Superman is going to make it."

"Superman is going to make it."

"You don't sound very convincing." Suddenly a red light flashed. Hank rose.

"It looks like your friend Superman showed up after all. Too bad for the two of you." Jimmy and Sam froze. Hank pulled out a gun. "Who wants to go first?"

"I do!" Jimmy said.

"Jimmy!"

"Sam, I can't bear the pain of seeing you die."

"But you will allow me to have that pain, by seeing you die!"

"Oh, Sam!" The chairs were next to each other so it was easy for Jimmy to turn his head and kiss Sam.

"That's it, I'll…" Hank didn't get any further, he was suddenly pushed over. "Hey what happened. SUPERMAN!" Superman was standing between him and Jimmy and Sam. He bent the gun. Quickly Hank got up and pulled a switch. Everything started to shake.

"Shouldn't have done that, Superman. I just pulled the self- destruct switch. Byee!" Hank disappeared.

"Let's get out of here!" Superman said. He quickly tore the rope they where tied with off. "This way, follow me!" Jimmy and Sam joined hands and ran the way Superman led. Superman flew over them to prevent things from hitting them.

"I can see the exit!" Jimmy cried and just then some of the roof fell down and blocked their way out. Superman lifted it up.

"Hurry! Before more of the roof falls down! It's crumbling between my fingers!" Sam took a step, but stepped wrong and fell to the floor.

"SAM!" Jimmy and Superman both cried.

"My ankle! It hurts so bad," Sam's eyes filled with tears.

"Jimmy, get her out of here!" Superman said. For a split second Jimmy looked helpless, but then he scooped Sam up in his arms and ran by Superman and out of the building with her. Outside there were a lot of police cars, an ambulance and a lot of other people, among them, Lois. When she saw Jimmy coming out of the building with Sam in his arms she ran to them.

"Jimmy… Sam …" she didn't get to say anymore, Jimmy had let himself fall to a sitting position, where he and Sam were hugging each other tightly. They had almost lost their lives, and more important; they had almost lost each other.

When Superman saw that there was no need for him anymore he quickly changed to Clark who came running out just in time to see Jimmy and Sam let go of each other.

"SAM!" he cried and squeezed her tightly. When he let go of her he gently caressed her cheek which still had a mark from where Bob's hand had landed. "Are you all right?" He asked after a long pause.

"I'm as fine as can be expected after being kidnapped, had a gun pointed at me and had a building falling down around me, but thanks to Jimmy and Superman I got out of there in one piece." Lois put her hand on Jimmy's shoulder.

"How are you?" she asked

"Now I know how C.K. feels every time you go do something headstrong and stupid and get into trouble and almost get yourself killed." he answered smiling.

"Since you've just be in a building that was falling down, I'll let that one pass!" Lois said smiling.

"Let's get you two to the hospital!" One of the men from the ambulance came over to them, and looked very stern.

"Oh and Clark, if you see Superman give him this from me." Sam leaned over and kissed her cousin on the cheek.

"I will."

***

A couple of days after Jimmy and Sam had been found Perry came out of his office to see Jimmy, Lois and Clark helping Sam down from the elevators.

"Boy am I glad to see the two of you again! How are you doing?" Perry asked as Clark put Sam down on Lois' desk.

"The only thing wrong physically is Sam's sprained ankle, but I think I speak for the both of us when I say we're still a bit shook up." Jimmy said.

"And it's not due to love," Sam said smiling thinking of that Elvis song "All Shook Up".

"OK." Perry laughed.

"Sam, what are you going to do now?" Lois asked. Sam looked at Jimmy who got a painful look in his eyes. Was she leaving him again after all they had been through together?

"There is something that I haven't told you guys yet. *Forever* is no more."

"What do you mean?"

"Bob is getting married and Linda is pregnant. The album wasn't a big enough success to out-weigh that, and Joe and I can't be *Forever*, just the two of us. I'm not mad at them or anything like that I'm actually very happy on their behalf."

"I'm sorry, Sam."

"Don't be, Clark."

"Come on, Sam, I know how much this meant to you."

"I thought it did too, but …I just feel it's time for me to do something else, something that will keep me in one place. I'm 24 years old and I have never lived on my own. I've never had my own place, I've never stayed long enough in one place to need one, now I need somewhere to set my roots."

"Does that mean that you're staying in Metropolis?" Jimmy asked hopefully.

"I don't know yet. First of all I need a job, because I can't afford an apartment."

"Maybe I could find you one here at the Planet," Perry suggested.

"It's very kind of you, but I've never been good at anything which has anything with paper and writing to do."

"I've got it!" Clark said.

"What?"

"Start your own nightclub!"

"That's a great idea. Music is the one thing I'm really good at. I did study business administration at college. Joe was a D.J. before he joined Forever. Oh thank you, Clark!" She threw her arms around his neck.

"I suddenly remembered there is an old club here in Metropolis for sale, you could buy that." Lois said.

"But I'll still need a loan, Do you think I can get the bank to give me one?"

"Sure! Come on! You're a former singer with a record deal and a great degree at business administration." Clark said smiling.

"And if they wouldn't," Perry said. "I'll be your guarantor."

"Really? You would?"

"If you promise to do an Elvis night at least once a month."

"That's a deal." They shook on it. Jimmy put his mouth to Sam's ear.

"This means that you're going to stay in Metropolis."

"Yes, it sure does!"
