Fade In

(Scene I - Lois Lane's Apartment)

Superman has just flown out of Lois Lane's window into the Metropolis skyline. A cool night breeze weaves its way through Lois Lane's bedroom as Lois dials the number to Clark Kent's apartment…ring…ring…ring…ring…

Clark

Hello?…Hello?…Anybody there?

Lois sits apprehensively at the edge of the bed and wonders if she did the right thing by calling.

Lois

Hello…Clark?

Clark

Lois? Are you okay?

Lois

Sure. I'm fine. Why wouldn't I be?

Clark

Well, you didn't answer right away when I said hello, I thought there was something wrong.

Lois

Oh. Well…I guess I didn't expect to get you. I thought I'd get a recording asking me to leave a message.

Clark

Well, this is an unexpected surprise. Before you say anything Lois, I wanted to tell you again that I'll never forget you saved my life.

Lois

It was no big deal Clark, you don't have to keep bringing it up.

Clark

Maybe to you it wasn't a big deal Lois, but it meant a great deal to me. You were very brave.

Lois

Funny, that's exactly what Superman said to me.

Clark

Really? When did you see him.

Lois

Just a few minutes ago. He was at my apartment.

Clark

Oh…I see.

Lois

Nothing happened, much to my dismay (whispered), he just said I was very brave for rescuing you.

Clark

What else did Superman tell you?

Lois hesitates, momentarily, as she remembers Superman saying she and Clark are very lucky to have each other.

Clark

Lois? Are you still there?

Lois

Oh…Yes…I'm sorry, my mind wandered in the middle of what you were saying. What did you say Clark?

Clark

I SAID…what else did Superman say?

Lois bites her upper lip

Lois

He said we're very lucky to have each other.

Clark

Really? What did you say?

Lois

I just nodded. I mean, contrary to what I thought in the beginning, we do make a great reporting team.

Clark

Is that what you both were eluding to? That you and I make a great reporting team?

Lois

Of course! What else would we make?

Clark

Oh, I don't know Lois. I just thought…

Lois

What? Thought what Clark?

Clark

Never mind Lois…it's not important.

Lois looks dejectedly at the floor…

Clark

Lois, would you like to get a bite to eat?

Lois glances out of the window where Superman so abruptly departed from.

Lois

Now? I just got out of the bath, Clark.

Clark

Oh…Okay. It's just that I know this great place that has the best hot fudge sundaes this side of Smallville.

Lois

Well. Why didn't you just come out and say that in the first place! Pick me up in a half hour, and don't make me wait!

Clark

I'll be there faster than a speeding bullet, Lois.

Lois

A little more of that Smallville humor, Clark?

Clark just laughs

Clark (hanging up) See you in a bit, Lois.

(End of Scene I)

Fade Out

(Scene II - The Fudge Castle)

Fade In

Lois and Clark are in a booth sharing a large hot fudge sundae…

Lois

I think I'm going to have to exercise this weekend.

Clark

Me too. Do you work out at home Lois or do you belong to one of those health clubs?

Lois

I belong to the Metro Health Club; how about you?

Clark

I just work out at home.

Lois

You should join the Metro Health Club Clark…you're never going to get in shape working out at home!

Clark

So you think I'm out of shape Lois?

Lois

No! I think you're in great shape…

Lois tries to catch herself, remembering how Clark looked that first time she saw him in his apartment with a towel wrapped around his waist…

Clark looks a little started…

Lois

What I meant was…you're in good shape, but you should work out at a health club where they can test all your vital signs and see if your working out at your optimum level.

Clark

I see…

Lois and Clark both dip their spoons in to the goblet to get the last bite of double chocolate fudge ice cream…when the spoons meet, they both look up at each other a little embarrassed. Both Lois and Clark back away to let the other one have the last bite…

Clark

Sorry Lois…go ahead and finish it …

Lois

No that's okay Clark, you eat it…I'm going to freshen up a bit.

Clark looks at the bill and goes to the counter to pay for the sundae as Lois looks to see if Clark is watching…when Clark turns away from Lois, she grabs her spoon and gobbles up the remaining ice cream. Lois then gets up and goes to the front of the store to meet Clark.

Clark

That was fast, Lois.

Lois

Well I guess I was fresh enough after all.

Lois and Clark Leave the store and step out into the night air. The Cold dark night seems to send an icy chill through Lois as she pulls the collar of her jacket up around her neck. The two stand there awkwardly deciding what to say to each other.

Clark

Well, Lois, I guess I'll drive you home…

Lois just smiles and they both get into Kent's car. Clark tries to start his car but the battery seems to be low and it won't kick over.

Clark

Oops, Sorry Lois. I better get out and have a look.

Clark pops the hood of the car and gets out. He then opens the hood and looks down at the battery. Clark lets his glasses drop a little and uses his powers to recharge the car battery. After several seconds he closes the hood and gets back in the car with Lois. Clark turns the key over and the car starts…

Lois

Well, what was the problem?

Clark

Battery cables were loose…

The car pulls away from the curb and proceeds in the direction of Lois Lane's apartment.

(End of Scene II)

Fade Out

(Final Scene - III)

Fade In

Lois and Clark are outside the door to Lois's apartment as Lois proceeds to open the door to let herself in.

Clark Well, I guess I should let you go Lois.

Lois Would you like to come inside Clark?

Clark Okay Lois, for a little while.

Both Lois and Clark stroll aimlessly into Lois's apartment. Clark removes his jacket and sets it on a chair.

Lois Why don't you sit on the couch while I make us some cappuccino.

Lois fills up the hot water machine and opens the cupboard above the sink. Conveniently she removes two instant cappuccino packets and closes the cupboard. After setting up two tea cups, Lois pours the packets and waits for the water to boil. Soon she returns to the couch with the cups and the room fills with the aroma of chocolate…

Lois (smiling)

It's the next best thing to having your own cappuccino machine.

Clark (Tasting the cappuccino)

It's good Lois…you'll be a gourmet chef in no time.

Lois (embarrassed)

Oh, it's nothing…it's one of the few things I can't mess up.

Clark

I think you could be good at anything you put your mind too, Lois.

Lois (embarrassed)

Oh Clark, that's sweet.

Lois inadvertently reaches for Clark's Hand and squeezes it. For a moment, their eyes meet and a wanton look of desire fills their eyes. Lois begins to look away and Clark breaks his trance and looks away as well. Suddenly, Lois turns back to Clark.

Lois

Clark? Oh, what the hell.

Suddenly, Lois leans over to Clark and puts her arms around his neck and quickly kisses Clark on the cheek.

Clark is momentarily caught off guard. Once again, Lois leans over to kiss Clark on the cheek but Clark turns his head slightly so they're lips are inches apart. For a brief second the two pause to gaze into each others eyes, then their lips meet. Their lips linger with each other before Lois breaks the silence.

Lois

It's even better when you help.

Clark

Are you sure this is what you want, Lois?

Lois (slightly annoyed)

Are you saying it's not what you want?

Clark (slightly annoyed)

I didn't say that. I just wanted to know if you really wanted to be with me.

Lois

I do.

Clark

What about Superman?

For a moment, Lois hesitates. She turns to gaze out the window and tries to hide her melancholia. Thoughts begin to fill her head as she slowly reminisces about her experiences with Clark. The touch of a faint smile begins to play on her lips as she turns back to Clark…

Lois

He was right. We are lucky to have each other.

Once again Lois leans into Clark. As if like a snake, searching for it's prey, Lois's hands begin to move up Clark's arms and shoulders until they lock about his neck. Clark follows Lois's lead and puts his arms around her waist as their bodies melt into one. Their lips meet as both tongues begin to explore each other. After lingering for several moments, Lois looks over into Clark's eyes and starts to giggle…

Clark

What is it?

Lois

Remember our first assignment together?

Clark

When we interviewed Doctor Platt?

Lois (giggling)

I said you are low man and I am top banana. Do you remember what you said?

Clark (with just a faint smile)

Yeah, I said You like to be on top.

Lois (still giggling)

That's right! I just wanted to make sure you haven't forgotten.

Clark (smiling)

No Lois, I haven't forgotten. Believe me, I HAVEN'T FORGOTTEN.

Lois replaces her hands back around Clark's neck, and leans down to kiss him. Clark needs no encouragement as he breathes in the sweet aroma of Lois's hair which gently sweeps over his face. The faint scent of her perfume still lingers in his mind as their bodies begin to entwine and become one. Neither of them feel the faint breeze coming from the open window…
